The Good: I am on my fourth pair of this model. They fit my feet perfectly (I have narrow heels and high arches),and the lace system is excellent. Control on sketchy downhills and climbs is excellent. They are light and I go up a size and 1/2 for toe box comfort.
The Bad: The the stitching on the lace stashes have ripped apart on the last two pair. There has obviously been a slip in quality control at Salomon.

We are a family of four cycling from Alaska to Argentina. I bought these shoes for me and my son with the hope that they would be comfortable to cycle in and would last a good long time - we were heading south of the border and I knew good shoes would be hard to find.
We have both found the shoes very, very comfortable and they work great on the bike. I don't feel the pedals jabbing into my feet like I did with other shoes.
However, about 2 months after I got the shoes, the lace had literally cut through one of the loops, making my lacing pretty funky. I figured it was a fluke and kept wearing the shoes with the bizarre lacing.
However, I just examined both pairs of shoes and noticed four more loops beginning to get cut by the lace. Within a few months, neither of us will be able to lace the shoes at all, as we will have too many sliced loops.
I am hoping Saloman can address this issue and make the loops sturdier because I really do like the shoes and want to wear them for a long, long time!

The moment I slipped these on I fell in love. They are much lighter than my old trail runners, the 3D chassis keeps my heel stable, they do not get too hot, and the lacing system makes them ideal for AR's!

I find myself wearing them by preference every weekend. Conform to foot perfectly. Also perfect support for foot. Easy to lace up and tighten. Soles are made for rough outdoor use, but are all right for most casual use. Goretex makes them water resistant, yet they breathe. I really like these shoes. Finally, they look really "cool," yet not too flashy."

Purchased these shoes for my first 100 miler, and was no dissapointed. They got me through the wet and muddy conditions at the Kettle 100 this year. Even with the wet conditions these shoes drained extremely well and gave great traction. They also gave great protection from rocks and roots. The most amazing part was that I had only 1 blister the entire race!

First of all I love Salomon shoes because once you find your size you never need to try on another pair. I'm a size 11M and I can order any Salomon 11M shoe and it will fit.
The XA Pro has a large, square-ish toe box that's well protected and it best fits a medium width foot. I use mine day hiking throughout Washington carrying between 5-30 lbs as well as walking to work, working around the yard and in the gym. I even play raquetball in them. I've never so much as twisted an ankle. They are breathable, comfortable, supportive and are quick and easy to tighten (I've never had a problem with laces coming loose or breaking). I also appreciate the bomber loop on the back for pulling them on or hanging them on my pack with a carabiner.
My only complaint is the soles aren't as durable as they could be.
Other than that I'd recommend them in a heartbeat and will write another review on my 12th pair.

I was a little weary at first purchasing a shoe (and not a boot) for hiking and camping in the Sonoran Desert, but can say – without a shadow of a doubt – that this was one of the best purchases I have EVER made … period. I've used boots of all kinds; from Merrell and N.F to the Oakley S.I Assault SF Boots overseas - and this is the only piece of footwear that supports my narrow and high arched foot from every angle. Fatigue is a non-issue and the innovative wrap-tightening system holds tighter and longer than any shoelace I have ever used. Water drains well, my feet don't overheat on the 10 mile 110 degree hikes we enjoy out here in the southwest and with a pair of Smart Wool socks I could go for days!
I highly recommend this product and after they've gone thru hell and back… I won't hesitate to buy another pair.

First the shoe: I've a high arch and a tough time buying shoes. I always go to REI to get fitted for the correct shoe. I bought these Salomon's about a week ago, and absolutely love them! This one particular pair of Salomon's comes in a width size perfect for my high arch & wide foot. I do everything in these shoes from hiking tiger mountain, the gym, to everyday walking they're that comfortable I just can't stop wearing them. Usually when I buy trail shoes I don't wear them for all activities because I don't want wear them out to quickly on the concrete, but I guess I'll just have to buy another pair:[...]With there helpful staff and 100 satisfaction guarantee I doubt I will ever go anywhere else.
