I hike all the time in Seattle, and lets face it if you are waiting for a sunny day around here to hike you won't get in many trail hours. OR Outdoor research makes great stuff and these pants on right on the money. The reason I like them over other popular brands like the Marmot PreCip is because they have a full elastic waist band, unlike the precip that zip all the way off, the OR only zips part way down allowing your legs to breath when you need it...the preclip pants with the Velcro closer isn't as comfortable nor water proof like the Goretex OR! These pants cost a little bit more, but if you're going to spend 90, my as well spend 160 and get pants that are sure to keep you dry.

These pants are great! I bought them for a trip to Peru, went to the Amazon basin and then hiked the Inca trail. It poured rain every day on the Inca trail, and low and behold my pants were completely waterproof. I wish the same could have been said for my jacket which leaked like a sieve, but these pants are great. And when I say it poured rain, it really poured rain, and I was completely dry underneath these pants.

The best part is how light they are and comfortable to walk in. I would use them anytime there is the possibility of rain when I go trekking. I could also see using them for x-country skiing if the weather was bad.

They are not meant for real warmness, as they are just a shell, but for rain, they are great.
