Comments about Marmot Hydrogen Sleeping Bag:

I use this bag exclusively for all but the coldest backpacking trips and it works for spring summer and fall. I have used it locally in Socal and in the Sierras down to 30 degrees and find the temperature rating is accurate. I sleep a little on the warm side anyways. I use the NeoAir Xlite Womens 66" pad and have never been cold. This bag is very lightweight and packs incredibly small. Dries quickly if you get some condensation on it from inside your tent. For me every ounce counts so for the weight this bag is superb. I am 5'10 and 180 and it fits me nicely. Enough room to turn over and the hood and collar cinch down nicely if it is getting cold.

Comments about Marmot Hydrogen Sleeping Bag:

I bought this bag about two months ago and have had it out on two backpacking trips on the A.T. in N. Georgia. My initial impressions were how extremely light weight this bag is. I was also very impressed with the material, it seems very soft and comfortable, yet durable enough for anyone who is responible enough to own a [$] sleeping bag. It is absolutely not a bag for a kid or someone who isn't going to treat it with proper care for what it is. If you're looking for a rough and tough bag for car camping and lots of abuse then Marmot makes better options for you, however, if you're looking for high quality very light weight gear then you will not be disappointed with this bag. I debated this bag and the Marmot Helium for several weeks and settled on this bag ultimately because I think this bag makes for a better fit for a three season bag, the Helium would be overkill and way too hot to use in the summer months. Another big plus for me was that it is filled and finished in the USA. Just like all the other Marmot gear I own, they did an excellent job with this bag, no regrets!

Comments about Marmot Hydrogen Sleeping Bag:

I've owned this bag for 3 years now. I am currently working on knocking off sections of the CDT ... spending at least 25+ nights out each summer. I've logged at least 75 nights in this bag. Most of nights are above 11,000 feet.

I'm 5-10 at 175 lbs. With a base layer on I am very comfortable (to 36f) in this bag. As with all bags, the zipper snags occasionally, and the shell leaks some down occasionally.... no big deal. This regular length bag weighed in at 1lb-9oz exactly.

This is a high quality bag that I would recommend to anyone spending nights out at, or above, 36f.

Comments about Marmot Hydrogen Sleeping Bag:

My first backpacking trip was in 1958 over Mono Pass. My first down bag was an REI 0 degree bag, which I still have, albeit, it has been relofted twice. Use it for car camping.
I have been using a Western Mountaineering 30 deg. bag(650 down)for the last eight years and love it. This year I decided to go with an 850 loft and liked the reviews for the Hydrogen 30 bag. The bag went on its maiden voyage last week to Cirque Peak. It compacted nicely, giving me more space in the pack and shaving 15oz.
I carry a small battery powered thermometer to tell me the low temp at night. The first night was 38 deg. I am a warm sleeper, so my bag is usually used as a blanket, even in cold weather. That night I had to add a second layer of clothing because I was cold and actually zipped the bag up. The second night the temp dropped to 32 deg and even with two layers of thermal clothing, I was cold the whole night. The bag had cold spots where the down had moved in the baffle leaving no down in several areas.
I wonder, as I am writing this, if I just received a bag that missed quality control

Took this bag out last month for a couple of nights at Chevlon Lake. Temps reached 18 degrees during the night and I stayed warm. I was wearing a thermal top and bottom. Bag packs very small and weighs nothing.

Comments about Marmot Hydrogen Sleeping Bag:

I've used the black version of this bag every day for over 3 years in Iraq. I've slept on everything from a cot to the desert floor (with and without a pad). This bag is still going strong. It is just now starting to show signs of the down not holding the loft like it used to when it was new. I would usually wash it twice a year with Down Wash. This bag is well worth it! I am now considering replacing it with the new model (mainly due to color change). I would definitely buy this again.

Comments about Marmot Hydrogen Sleeping Bag:

The Marmot Hydrogen is a great bag to own. For a 800+ fill bag, it's reasonably priced and very warm and lightweight. I've had a lot of success using this bag below 30 degrees by combining it with a thermolite sleeping bag liner and/or down clothing as well. If you pack accordingly, I think you can safely trust this bag close to 10 degrees. I've personally slept with this bag in Joshua Tree's deserts in January and also in Northern Michigan Spring through late Fall with great comfort. Treat it with care and you can expect nearly a lifetime of service from a bag of this quality.

My only gripe is that I'm not a fan of the stuff sack it came issued with. It is difficult to pack and does not have any compression straps to condense the bag to a smaller volume. I've since gone on to replace it with a waterproof compression sack and I really recommend this as an accessory to the bag. You'll cut volume, the weight is negligible, and you'll add insurance to your bag by waterproofing it. You'll come to appreciate this if you ever get caught up in a storm or fall into water with your pack (as I have) or discover that your kayak's bulkheads weren't nearly as dry as you thought they were. Well worth the investment and has greatly improved my experience with this sleeping bag.

Comments about Marmot Hydrogen Sleeping Bag:

I have had a chance to use this bag in below freezing temperatures and was quite warm though I was using a liner. I have yet to need to fully zip the bag up. Like with any bag though a pad is necessary. The weight on this bag is amazing, and the size that it can be shrunk with out a stuff sack is also impressive.
