Comments about Marmot Atom Sleeping Bag:
my husband and I just car camped for 3 weeks in Badlands, Yellowstone, Tetons and Rocky Mntn. We were surprised by colder conditions than expected and these sleeping bags saved our butts! Temps outside were in the 20's so inside our car definitely a bit warmer. I'm not sure these would have sufficed outside in a tent in those temps but the bags are only guaranteed for 40's anyway. They are silky smooth so very comfy! The size was right for us but we are both short, my husband being 5'7'' and about 200 lb. Leaked a little down initially but haven't seen a feather since. We LOVE that they pack small and are very light. Great for backpacking or even future sleepovers/trips.

Comments about Marmot Atom Sleeping Bag:
Flat out awesome bag. Light, packs down uber small and is warm. I have used this bag in the mid 30's with no issue. If I know it will be a little colder I will use my Sea to Summit Reactor liner. I don't really have any complaints about this bag. It does loose some down but what down bag doesn't.

Comments about Marmot Atom Sleeping Bag:
I have owned two of these for about 4 years. I've washed them with down wash and then machine dried them with a DWR coating and they are like new (loft gets restored). We usually use in the summer and early fall, but as a quilt unzipped because otherwise it is usually too warm even for summer. But, we have used them as low as 45F and they were comfortable and also roomy enough to go around my moderatly oversized midsection. The drawback of down is that it gets wet and then tends to stay wet. So, often in summer when it isn't going to go below 65F a cheap fleece throw works better and packs almost as small and is even a bit lighter.

Comments about Marmot Atom Sleeping Bag:
I feel this bag was a great purchase. I have used it in Florida and Colorado and can attest to its versatility. I sleep warm and have a hard time finding a sleeping bag that keeps me from playing with how much of me is outside of the bag at night. I have used this bag when it is around 70 degrees at night down to about 28 degrees here in Colorado. I can tell you that around 30 the bag is fine if you are a warm sleeper and have on a light layer just like another reviewer pointed out. I find the only part on me that gets cold when the temps are below 40 are my feet and I think that is because my feet are right up to the end of the bag.
I also worked all the down off the bottom of the bag to the top of the bag and it feels like it adds another 5 degrees to the bag low temp range. The comments from one reviewer about down leaking is ridiculous as I have used this bag numerous times and have not seen one single down feather "poke out." The only negative to this bag is your campmates will try to steal it to use instead of their bag.
One final note is anyone who over 6' and looking at this bag might want to get the long. I am 6' and I take up every inch of the bag's length.

Comments about Marmot Atom Sleeping Bag:
I have used this bag in a variety of climates from dry to humid. Overall I think that the quality of the bag is good. I have always stored my bag in the cotton storage sack that came with bag.
Pluses:
The most impressive thing about this bag is its softness and compressibility. This bag is very comfortable and is as soft as silk. You'll barely know that your in it. It packs down to nothing and weighs nothing as well. Ultralight is the true market for this bag. This is my favorite thing about the bag and why I bought it in the first place.
Minuses:
The bag definitely leaks down feathers. The shell is so thin that in certain light you can actually see the feathers. Sometimes the sharp end will poke through the bag and you can try to work it back in before it works its way out. But I've never felt them poking me while I sleep. So it doesn't affect the comfortableness of the bag against your skin. For a bag of this price, losing a feather is like watching your money float around the room.
My biggest complaint about this bag is that the down shifts causing cold spots; not so much in the top of the bag, as there seems to be more down, but where my body lays in the bottom of the bag. Its like my body pushes the feathers out of the way and I'm no longer laying on down. There is definitely more down in the top of the bag. I also feel like the bag has lost some of its loft. I tried washing the bag and drying with tennis balls to re-loft it but it stayed the same.
Regarding the temp rating of 40+:
The coldest temp I used this bag was 35 degrees. I slept in my capilene and wool baselayers. I was cold. I had to put on my MH compressor jacket and a wool hat and was still cold. I won't buy this bag with the intention of pushing its rating.
Over all I give it a middle of the road rating. If you want a silky 1 lb bag that disappears in your pack then this bag is amazing. But I've been a little disappointed in the loss of loft and losing feathers. Ultimately I'm gonna use it for the 50+ range.

Comments about Marmot Atom Sleeping Bag:
I have owned the Atom (older model, 900 down, Pertex Quantum version) for almost 4 years. Temps ranged from 36 degrees F to the 80s, on around two dozen trips including some so-cal sections of the PCT. My bag weighed in at an even 18oz., for the version I had, after a dryer run.First and foremost, Marmot, along with other top-quality bags in the industry, i.e. Western Mountaineering, is as close as it gets to achieving indicated temp ratings. They are in the middle of the EN13357 scale and are most comfortable at around 10 degrees warmer than rated, but with a light base layer, they will be comfortable at their ratings. The bag is top quality with perfect stitching, ample room for layering, and a great draft tube that is stuffed with plenty of down. In temps below 40, I wore a med-weight fleece layer and was cozy all night. The zipper is mostly snag-less, but will if the bag is bunched up when you zip it up.I sleep very hot when I get to bed and by 2am, I am a sleep very cold. So, i.e. when I hit the bag at hiker midnight, at 50 degrees, I have the top half of me sticking out of the bag. By 2am, I am snuggled deep in my cocoon with the hood synched.[...]
