Comments about Thule Universal Flat Top 6-Ski Carrier:
Installed on a Jeep Grand Cherokee factory rack. Low clearance meant I had to put the skis on binding side-up. Therefore, I could barely fit 1 snowboard and 2 pairs of skis. If you're transporting more than 3 skis, look for something like the Yakima FatCat product lines. Thule makes ski racks that are height adjustable - but you can't find them in the US. In the UK check for Thule Deluxe or Snowpro Uplifted.

Comments about Thule Universal Flat Top 6-Ski Carrier:
I have used this rack on a 1996 Ford Explorer and my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. On the Explorer I mounted the Thule to the factory rack, and as one other review stated, had a problem with clearance when snowboards were mounted upside down. However, this was easily remedied with the inexpensive Thule riser kit (which I think is now included in the base 91725 kit). It provides an extra 1.5" of clearance, so there is no problem whatsoever with roof clearance for larger bindings.
On my Jeep Cherokee I upgraded to the Thule Crossroad 450 and LB50 Load Bars, and the fit/installation is perfect. Plenty of clearance is available for mounting boards upside down, and it's easy to get 4 boards on/off the rack.
Great product with great durability. I would recommend this to anyone.

Comments about Thule Universal Flat Top 6-Ski Carrier:
On the first unit I brought home today the keys did not match the locks. Returned to the store for an exchange.
On the second unit, one key nut was missing from one of the universal mounting brackets.
The third unit will NOT be a THULE!

Comments about Thule Universal Flat Top 6-Ski Carrier:
I have had no problems with my carrier. Locks work fine, no trouble loading up the gear, no problems with clearance. I can easily put four snowboards up there. I have used it on my Honda Pilot's factory racks as well as Thule Crossbars on a VW GTI hatchback. The only thing I don't like is attaching it to the racks. There isn't a socket that matches the hex key, so it takes awhile to put on. Other than that, it does what it's supposed to do: carry my snowboards.

Comments about Thule Universal Flat Top 6-Ski Carrier:
I originally purchased the Yakima Big Powderhound for my Subaru Outback 2010. The Yakima was difficult to install, additionally its screws were too short or too long (almost scratching the car), and it made a lot of wind noise at speeds over 45mph (it drove me crazy)! The difficult install aside, the wind noise was the main reason for the return. I purchased the Thule rack with hopes that the wind noise would not be as bad. First the install was a lot easier than the Yakima (only two screws a side, instead of three), and there is zero wind noise at any speed. The rack seems well made and capable of hauling my skis to and from the slopes for many years. Because my Subaru has a lift gate I have to position my skis so that the bindings are centered on the front cross bar. I have one set of riser plates under the bindings, and it's a tight fit to close the rack (it still latches and locks). If you don't have a lift gate this is a non issue.

Comments about Thule Universal Flat Top 6-Ski Carrier:
Hello All,I bought this to put on my Thule rapid aero crossbars. While this is a good product it is NOT good for carrying more than two (2) snowboards. After situating this "six-ski / four snowboard" carrier on my crossbars, I placed a 153 board and a 147 board into the device (i.e., these are not terribly large or wide boards - but standard size boards). These two boards filled up almost the entire usable surface of this product. To follow up, I measured the usable surface of this device with a tape measure and found it to be less than 16" (15 inches and some change). This was a real shock since each snowboard is ~10" at its most narrow point of width. I returned this and picked up the Yakima Fat cat (6 ski / 4 board). This was the first Yakima product I have ever owned and can't say anything other about it than it goes well with my aero bars and definitely fits four (4) boards. I measured the usable surface of this Yakima fat cat and found it just less than 29". I don't have any relationship to Thule or Yakima - nothing personal to Thule; I like the other products I own from them. But this product will simply NOT hold four boards . . . if you want to hold /carry more than 2 boards, don't pick up this product. I would recommend this to a friend -- IF my friend wanted to carry only two boards . . . but I would NOT recommend this to a friend otherwise. So if you want a good carrier for only two boards, this is a good product (I particularly like the soft rubber grips it features) . . . otherwise, this is not going to work if you want to carry more than 2 boards. JB100 has it right -- if I had seen his post, I would have passed this product by because it advertises a capacity that it has no realistic hope of reaching.
