Marin MBX 50 is a small bike for the young rider who dreams of riding BMX with the big kids.

BMX-style crankset and handlebar let the little guy or gal feel a part of the action, too
6061 aluminum is strong and lightweight; young riders can wheel the bike around and put it away easily
Single-speed bike features a coaster (foot) brake and hand rear brakes, so a young rider is never without a way to stop
Suspension front fork—just like on bigger bikes—features 40mm travel to soften those minor bumps that get in the way
Adjustable training wheels speed the learning process

After its initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Contact your nearest REI bike shop for details and an appointment for this important service.

Went into REI to buy the 16 inch Novara Sitnger for our son. Loved the 2006 model, hate the 2008 version. It really skimped on quality. So we opted for the Marin 16 inch BMX 50. A great choice. Lighter aluminum frame, so it's easier to pedal, no plastic pieces to crack and break, higher set handle bars so it will fit himas he grows (My only complaint with Novara in the past was its low profile handle bars. My child got hunched over when he grew). The Marin even added a couple of nice features like a hand brake, so he can learn how to use those and move away from coaster brakes, and front shocks. No, he wont be doing serious off road ridding, but it does make for a smoother ride, and he'll dig showing it off to his friends. Not the cheapest price kid's bike, but I believe in buying quality, and this seems to be it. the only thing it lacked was a bell. Of course, we had to add one with a compass in it. Boys love their toys.

This is a high quality bike. They didn't cut corners on the components. The other kids have the Huffy's, Mongooses, etc... and you can tell the difference in quality. My 3 year old rides this very comfortably. It's lighter than other bikes as well
