Comments about The North Face Paramount Convertible Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I will be returning these. The 30" inseams are actually 32 and a quarter inches, unstretched, from crotch to seam. Usually the difference between a 'short' 'regular' and 'long' is about 2 inches. TNF shows poor quality control in letting this mistake get by. If I tailor the legs I will loose the functionality of the leg zipper, since it starts at the seam.
The cargo pocket is strangely placed at the front of the leg, so don't put anything in it, or it will interfere with forward motion of your leg. There is a reason all other cargo pants, place the side pocket on the side. A better choice are the REI Sahara pants; true to size, with a cargo pocket on the side.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Convertible Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
Picked two pairs up at REI rather reluctantly. I was reluctant because of the reviews that say the crotch seams wear out easily. The problem is the only other decent pair are the REI Sahara (after looking at many brands in stores and online), but they seem to have very bad zipper issues, so I went with these. The REI Sahara pants also have hard corners on the cargo pocket, which in my experience will create holes in the fabric with use and washing. However, the cargo pockets on these NF pants are built into the seams, so no hard corners that would wear on the pant leg fabric. The other thing is, after trying them on to find the best fit, they fit very well, and are very comfortable. My wife even commented on how good they look on my, which is rare. I am 175 lbs and 6 ft high, and the mediums with short inseam fit the best, although the regular inseam wasn't too long. The water resistance is the best, you can actually use the legs to hold water if you want. These are not as packable as the REI Sahara pants, since the fabric is a bit thicker. Back to the seam issue. It seems as if the thread used is perhaps a bit thin, and perhaps this is why it will fail. The crotch does however have a single piece of fabric going across between each medial thigh, which regularly should help keep the crotch seam from failing (this is similar to football outfits but it goes from leg to leg, not front to back), but I guess I'll find out soon enough. The stitching is double reinforced, and I may add a third myself to the crotch area just to be sure.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Convertible Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I purchased two of the convertible pants then purchased a third. I use them for casual wear and travel during non-cold weather months, and for occasional hiking. They look and feel great! For the cost [$], and from what I believed to be an excellent company ("The North Face"), I expected excellent quality. I was sorely disappointed. The crotch and butt seams "blew out" on all three pair. My wife repaired them, and so far they have held up. This clearly reflects poorly on quality control at "The North Face". It is unlikely that I will purchase another "North Face" product, and will not recommend their products to my friends. I expected MUCH better from "The North Face". Just another example of corporate profit at any cost, particularly at the customer's expense. BAD DEAL!

Comments about The North Face Paramount Convertible Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I have worn these pants on three hikes. Evey hike they have fallen apart a little more. The first hike a branch ripped a whole behind the heel. The second hike two holes just started forming above my boot. The last hike the button that fastens the waist together ripped out of the fabric.
I would definitely not purchase these again.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Convertible Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
First mistake bought a pair [...] within 6 days returned them because the seams in the butt gave out. [...]Then I go on a casual trip to Big Sur, lunch at Nepenthe, mild hiking (maybe 2 miles all day). Get home, out of curiosity, check the seams in the rear end, they are giving already? (and they are not to small on me). Love the fabric, love all the pockets, hate the poor quality, these should be recalled and redesigned! North Face is generally a pretty trusted name, not sure whats up with that?????

Comments about The North Face Paramount Convertible Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
After trying on several convertible pants, I settled on the NF. Much heavier material compared to others, yet they were very comfortable hiking with a 40lb pack in 90+ deg weather. They dried quickly (after a dunk in a steam) and held up to abuse during rock scrambling. Love the color coded zippers so there is no guessing which pant leg goes where. Zippers were snag free as well. Belt has limited adjustment range which is why they don't get 5 stars, otherwise GR8 pants.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Convertible Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I use these for casual/travel wear and camping/hiking. I have purchased 5 pairs in three colors. All were medium, short. All were too long and required a tailor. Two of the five shrank a full size in the waist and about a 1/2 inch in length at the first cold water wash and hang dry rendering them useless to me. Being 100% nylon the shrink was a total surprise. A 40% loss rate is intolerable for North Face products. Overall I still like the pants, but probably will not purchase them again.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Convertible Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
Let me start out by saying these WERE my favorite pants. They fit great and are very comfortable. You can wear them for a week and toss them in the washer and they look like new, but...I noticed they started to come apart in the crotch. Then they started to just plain fall apart. I have 4 pairs and they are ALL falling apart in the same place. I loved these pants, but now none of them are wearable. I thought it was just me then I checked on here and it is not just me. North Face products have really been sliding in quality over the years and this will be my last North Face product. [...]

Comments about The North Face Paramount Convertible Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I bought a 30" Medium (Med/Short) Pair a year ago or so and absolutly loved them. I'm 5'9" with a 30"/31" waist - they were a little big on me but still loved them.
Bought them for backpacking trips, but find myself wearing these pants all the time. Love the zipperd pocket high on the right side, and all the other pockets. Wore them just about every weekend over the past two summers with many washes and no quality issues yet.
The ones I bought a year ago were always a little big on me, especially for being 30" Med. Decided I needed a second pair. To my amazement .. the new 30" small is about 2-3 inches longer than my 30" medium pair, and the waist is just as big if not bigger. Does Nylon shrink that much in the wash? I don't think so - I tried on a new 30" Med pair just for comparison - and it was an absolute joke how big these pants are. I need another 9" on my waist to fit into the new Medium pants. Someone at TNF screwed up....
The quality of the material/stiching doesn't appear to be as good as my older pair either.
Very dissapointed
I am going to have to go to another brand to find a pair of pants like this that fit.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Convertible Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I am actually shocked that North Face allowed these to go to production in their current state. As other reviews have stated, the inseam size is way off. A 30" inseam is perfect for me yet the 30" inseam for this line of pants is at least 2 inches too big. For a company like North Face, well lets just say its shocking that something like this can get past quality control.
If you simply must buy from an REI store I would go with the REI Sahara Pants however if your free to shop anywhere you like on the net then I simply have to recommend going with Mountain Hardware. Both the Mesa Convertible pants and the Matterhorn convertible pants are hands down the 2 best pairs of convertible pants I have found yet and I have tried almost all of them. They are absolutely flawless in their design and are as comfortable as they come. If your looking for warm weather pants then go with the Mesa Convertible and if your looking for a pair for a bit cooler weather then go with the Matterhorn. They are a little bit more expensive but its absolutely worth it.
I am usually a pretty big fan of North Face gear and clothing however when it comes to convertible pants Mountain Hardware has them beat in every possible way. The Mesa and Matterhorn are again IMO the 2 best pairs of convertible pants currently on the market.
North Face needs to take this entire line back to the drawing board.
