Comments about Columbia Sportswear Sandy River Cargo Water Shorts - Women's:
I wasn't looking for water shorts but bought these because the fit is so great. If you have a waist smaller than your hips, these are the shorts for you. I always have the problem with shorts/pants gapping in the back. These shorts fit perfectly. I ended up getting them in multiple colors. I wear an 8 and medium was right size.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Sandy River Cargo Water Shorts - Women's:
These are great-fitting casual shorts. I love the belt with the snap closure. It makes the shorts fit my small waist. I usually wear a size 8 or 10 and the size M is perfect. For anyone ordering by mail, note that the colors "Fossil" and "Columbia Navy" are darker in "real life" than they appear on screen. "Fossil" looks more tan than in the picture here.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Sandy River Cargo Water Shorts - Women's:
I tried on about 10 different shorts at REI before these - and wow, I'd have saved myself a lot of time if I'd started with these. Most of the other shorts gapped at my lower back/waistline because my waist is small. I'm usually a 4 or a 6 if I want a little looser fit. The size S was perfect. The elastic waistband solves the awkward waist fit issue. Have worn on hikes, and the pockets are great. Can't believe that some hiking shorts don't have pockets!
One thing I would note is that the REI review form combines running/hiking - I would not wear these shorts for running. I have running shorts that are specifically made for running. These shorts are hiking/travel shorts.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Sandy River Cargo Water Shorts - Women's:
I went in with my REI gift card, looking for a pair of convertible pants and walked out with these instead. They are the perfect short for everything from going to the park to spending a week in the middle of nowhere.
When I first picked them up I was thinking they seemed light and might be good to stuff in a pack for water crossings, but I ended up buying them for backpacking. I may be the only one, but I've never really been happy with convertible pants. I love the convenience of not having to change, but being very short and stocky (aka I have hips) I have the worst time finding pants that are short enough and wide enough without either being long or baggy around my waist. As previous reviewers have said, these shorts fit great around the waist and hips especially if you happen to have actual hips! The pockets are mesh so not only do they drain well when wet, but they also vent well, which makes them perfect hiking shorts.
As long as Columbia keeps making these shorts, I'll keep buying them!!

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Sandy River Cargo Water Shorts - Women's:
These are super comfy! I'm a 5'2" and 95lb and the extra small fits perfectly. They also dry quickly so they are great for kayaking or commuting in the rain. They are also great for bike riding because they are so light and cool (as long as you got some padded undies because the shorts offer no such comfort there).

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Sandy River Cargo Water Shorts - Women's:
I needed a pair of lightweight comfortable shorts that would dry quickly and would not be too bulky and long. These shorts are exactly what I needed! I am a true medium on the bottom and these shorts fit just right. I'm fairly tall, 5'10", and these shorts come to the middle of my thigh. The belt is great too. I have a feeling I will be spending much of my summer in these shorts... I may just have to get them in another color!

Very versatile shorts. I live in them during the summer. I love the inseam length - not too short and not too long. I'm 5'9" and they fit great.
