REI Members get back an estimated $ 9.00 on this item as part of their annual member refund.

    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

by fromDisappointed Loved the design of this tool and happily bought one, then a couple of weeks later while trying to straighten a thin wire D ring, the pliers broke. This was surprising because I was using very little pressure.[...]I took it back, exchanging it for a Wave tool instead. Hopefully it'll last, though even its pliers look a little thin above the hinge...we'll see. Glad I still have my second generation Leatherman - it's bomb proof.

by fromNot all that great This tool isn't terrible but it isn't all that great. The pliers on it are pretty weak, I tried to bend a cotter pin and I could feel the jaws on the tool bend and was def fearful they were going to snap right in my hand. Had the tool for maybe a month and its starting to rust. That isn't saying much for a tool that spends 95% of the time in my pocket. I would also like to point out that the "carbon fiber" inlay is totally lame. It isn't real as far as in concerned. The "fiber " rubbed off and there is some metal underneath, it's totally weak. Either its some synthetic material over a mental piece or carbon fiber dust glued to a piece of metal, either way for a 90 dollar tool that seems like a burn. All and all its not worth the money. If you are looking for something to "look cool" maybe, but as for a rugged tool not so much. Its now on my ta do list as a return

by fromsave your money This is a nice lightweight tool, but I suggest the regular model, the only upside to the carbon is the serated blade, but there is only one strip of carbon and the rest is black steel so you might as well save your money and buy the stainless version and save some $

by fromdisappointed I bought this knife as a Christmas present for my son to use day to day and when we section hike the AT. The knife is lightweight, and functional. Unfortunately the bit for the screwdriver fell out easily and after a slip in the snow, it was lost. Also the removable pocket clip is a soft metal and bent out of shape after getting caught on a branch while hiking. Although it is supposedly removable there are no instructins how to remove it and repair it. I would recommend this only when these problems are fixed

by fromHopefully just a fluke I really like the look and feel of the CX, but I've only had it for 3 days and the clasp that holds the bits in place has lost it's spring, and now a bit. [...]It's just disappointing to pay good money for something that's supposed to be durable and last a long time just to be let down when I'm on the road with it and have nothing else.

by fromForm leading function... I used this on two backpacking trips before abandoning it in a drawer. On the plus side, it looks cool and the knife opens one-handed easily. On the downside, the knife blade "vent holes" gum up and are impossible to clean in the backcountry (limited water), the screwdriver bits are too short and can fall out, and there's no can opener. The Juice model line seems to work much better for me in the backcountry.

by frompliers are brittle I broke the pliers while working outdoors the second time I used them, expecting that they would be as durable as a typical cheap needlenose, but one of the tines snapped off. To their great credit, Leatherman very quickly sent a new replacement, but now I am reluctant to use this tool the way I had intended. I mean, everybody has one particular tool in mind when they get a multitool, and that is the pliers/wirecutter. This being a minimalist multitool, there are only a few other tools to consider: the bit driver, which does work well, and the knife, which has an excellent, versatile shape and quite a sharp blade out of the package. The bottle opener/carabiner is a nice consideration as well that deserves inclusion on subsequent versions of the Leatherman.
