Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
These pants went away and due to demand, they are back! Bought the Mistral pants last year for fall Rock Climbing, based on description of flexibility. Worked great. They allow freedom of movement, light weight, yet resist abrasive conditions, (strong material). Decided to try them snowshoeing one day when my snow/mountaineering pants were not available. They performed beyond my expectations and that is all I wear now with gaiters. They are rain resistant beyond the pant description and some wind resistance. Flexible enough to wear an inner/base layer if in colder conditions. Breathabilty allows for excellent body temp control. If you want an all-around use pant, these are the best I have found. Just ordered another pair today. Thanks for bringing these back!

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
I know this pant was designed for the rugged outdoorsman; however, it is also a wonderful pant for someone with physical disabilities. My son walks with the the assistance of leg braces and spends a lot of time in a wheelchair. The stretch of the fabric is perfect for someone that sits a lot; the zippers at the ankles allow him to put the pants on easily over his leg braces. My son has been wearing Mistral pants five days per week for the past three years and they still look new! They always look nice and are appropriate for outdoor use as well as for dining in a nice restaurant. I think they clean beautifully. My only complaints are that they are air-dry only, that they don't come in more colors and perhaps in a heavier version for cold winters.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
It's about use and expectations.
First bought Mistral pants in 2006 for mountaineering. Mistake. Original's zipper hardware was clunky and easily damaged. Got hammered by mountain storms. The pants did not perform well in extreme conditions, and I brought Tyrol mud home.
I bought new "improved" Mistral pants this year for use in less extreme hiking conditions. Improved zippers work and last. These pants are fantastic, but I will not expose them to extreme conditions. They allow movement, are reasonably lightweight, durable, rain resistant within limits, and are very breathable for good body temp control. For cool temps and wind conditions, best worn with long poly unders.
A good all-around use outdoor pant, too, when you can't wear shorts. I will buy a second pair, but I wish they made them in "graphite".

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
I use the pants for winter snow activities primarily snowshoeing on moderate to steep terrain in the Sierra backcountry. The material and general design is great the only drawback is the open back pockets. They typically fill with snow which melts and drips inside the pants. The pockets need zippers. All pockets were zippered on the the first pair i bought a few years ago.
Thanks

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
The Mistral pants have a very stylish, clean design and trim fit. They are a perfect weight for all manners of outdoor activity. The best part is that they just look great at all times of the day and night and in almost any setting. I have a tan pair from a couple years ago and I really hope that REI comes out with that color again. Tan coordinates well with a variety of different colored tops. Please, please bring back the tan! These are the best pants I have ever purchased.

Why is the tan color discontinued? It would be great to have durability like this in the summer - black gets too hot.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
Why is REI changing these pants? The Schoeller material has proven itself time and again. I had the same experience with the Patagonia Simple Guide Pants-Patagonia changed the material (not nearly as good) and the elastic in the waist was much cheaper. Essentialy, they ruined a very good product.
REI- Don't ruin a good thing!
