Comments about The North Face Paramount Porter Convertible Pants - Women's:
I just spent two weeks in Peru and these were my only pants. I bought a size larger then I normally wear since I felt they ran small. I'm 5'6" but I also bought a petite because I don't like a lot of extra length dragging on the ground. These pants dry quickly and are easy to clean.

I bought these pants for hiking/backpacking trips, but they are so comfy and cute that I wear them during the week and to the office. They do run small, so you have to buy the next size up for a better fit.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Porter Convertible Pants - Women's:
I am new to hiking and decided I should get some hiking specific pants (I'm learning that cotton is bad). I picked these up during the REI fall sale and love them! I have been hiking in the north cascades with a good amount of snow and these have kept me very dry. I just went to Vancouver, B.C. and my group blazed our own trail through the snow which was usually mid-calf to knee height. At the end of the hike I was the only one with dry pants! They allow great movement for climbing around and fit really well. I might suggest wearing a pair of long underwear in cold weather. I didn't for my hikes through the snow but I warmed up after I started hiking. As the weather gets colder though, I'm going to need that long underwear. I'm 5'6" and usually a size 4 or 6. I got a 6 and it's a little big but the drawstring fixes that problem.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Porter Convertible Pants - Women's:
I'm done trying to find NF pants that fit. I am a very typical size and shape for an American woman (5'6, sz 12), but I have not been able to fit into NF pants for years. I have an older (at least 10 years) version of this pant, in size large - which in the normal world correlates to a 12-14, which still fits. They are shorter than I'd like so I'm looking for a longer version. Because my original convertibles still fit, I know NF has changed their fit design. I bought the size 14 in the paramounts, and they are so tight in the legs I can't get them up! If I could get them up, I can tell the waist would be too big. Who is NF using for their fit models?! The other problem I have with NF is their seeming determination not to add a little stretch to their convertible pants. Other companies have been doing it now, so what's the holdup?
I've been trying on different versions of NF convertible pants for too long now to continue being frustrated. Although I like the pockets and length of both the pants and the shorts, until NF starts making pants that fit women with hips and thighs and narrower waists, I'm looking elsewhere.

I took a pair of these pants into the jungles of Panama with me along with a couple other pairs. I wore these for 4 days straight and was not as happy with the other pants I brought as I was with this pair. They fit well. True to size, I thought. They don't have an elastic waist band which is great - means they don't make you look like a shapeless bag! Well designed clothes will do that for you! They clean up well - mud wipes right off. Comfy. Great in hot, humid, wet, & dirty conditions. Sturdy fabric - no tears at all despite some serious bushwhacking on my part. The only major drawback is the zipper where you zip the pant legs into the shorts (ie the convertible feature). The seaming was not as tight as I would have liked at that spot and so lots and lots of ticks got into my pants through the zipper. If you're going to an area with ticks, re-think taking convertible pants with you. There are probably enough nasties on the ground that you wouldn't take advantage of the shorts feature anyway. Though it was nice to wear them as capris in camp.

We try to do it all: Hiking, biking, backpacking, paddling. This pair of convertible pants is just what I was looking for: Comfortable, low-rise waist is good for carrying a pack, zippers are easy to zip legs on/off, the turn-up pant legs are a really nice feature if you don't want to zip legs off entirely. The length of the shorts is just right.
These pants are stylish enough to wear casually or when traveling.
I have resisted getting convertible pants as I was worried about the chafe factor when hiking on rugged terrain or scrambling. Thus far there's been no problem.
The only reason I didn't give these pants 5 stars is that I think there should have been zippers on either the seam or cargo pockets.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Porter Convertible Pants - Women's:
I wear these pants regularly for hiking, have taken these on multi-day camping and backpacking trips--they are very comfortable. I absolutely love these pants because they fit well and are not excessively baggy in the hip/thigh area like most other hiking pants I've tried on. I would most definitely buy these pants again and again!

Comments about The North Face Paramount Porter Convertible Pants - Women's:
I took these pants on a camping trip the same week I bought them. They turned out to be very packable, easy-to-convert and nice-looking. The shorts and the pants are the right length and form, neither too bulky nor too tight-fitting. It was really nice to be able to wear the pants in the morning, convert them into shorts in the daytime, turn the shorts into capris late in the evening, and then go back to pants closer to the night. I am thinking of buying another pair in a different color as a backup.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Porter Convertible Pants - Women's:
These look great and are the only pants that don't make you look like you have a front butt. They are pretty true to size. I bought 2 sizes and actually kept them both: more fitted ones for outdoor adventures followed by a dinner out, and the other bigger ones for outdoor adventures only (to fit thermals under). However, I do not recommend them for hardcore activities that will involve scrambling or climbing. They are NOT abrasion resistant. I wore them only once canyoneering and rubbed a hole in the butt which got even bigger the 2nd time. They will be good for normal activities like hiking, but not activities where you really get dirty.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Porter Convertible Pants - Women's:
I am an INTJ personality, which means that I tend to research my purchases in detail before buying. I have not actually bought these pants yet, but I have tried on endless pairs of convertible pants, and these are the best around that I have found anywhere - mainly because they are actually CUTE, AND comfortable!! I find that most convertible pants for women make you look like you have balloon legs or are trying to be a man - but these are a GREAT fit and slimming. Perhaps they are built for women that don't have big hips, but I did NOT find that they run small. I am a patagonia size 6 (skorts) but am a NorthFace size 2 (these pants). However, it is true that they are not at all stretchy, so finding the right size is essential. Love them!
