Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants - Women's:
I found the REI Sahara pants from LAST year
so comfortable-great fit- but THIS year- looks
like they have a LOWER riding waist- SO uncomfortable and unflattering. I wish the
waistline was the same as last year- I would
truly buy 4 more pair. I'm very dissapointed that the style was changed.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants - Women's:
Looks good for a 1 day wear--short hike or trip to dog park. But I took them backpacking for a long weekend and by day 2 they stretched to at least 2 sizes too big and were really uncomfortable. And now they look bad: they got fuzz balls where my pack sat on them.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants - Women's:
I have four pair of LAST YEAR's design of the REI Sahara pants. I do not like this year's pocket layout design or the lower waistline. These pants are not about style, they are about making life practical for hikers and travelers. If REI returns to LAST YEAR's design, I will buy some more pants. If not, I guess I'll have to start looking elsewhere. If necessary, make two lines of Sahara pants, one for folks who focus on style and appearance and one line for those of us who like to be comfortable, practical and utilitarian. Thanks much.

I tried on several different brands and these were the only convertible pants that fit me like a glove. (No gapping in the back, plenty of room in the thighs.) Great for hiking, canoeing, and fishing. The pant legs zip on and off easily. The fit is true to size and the "tall" length was perfect. I bought a pair in both colors.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants - Women's:
These are my favorite outer layer over my bike shorts when pedaling around the greenways near my home. (I'm the modest type so prefer to have a layer over my shorts.) When the legs are zipped on, I've got a reasonable windbreak and the ability to shift from pants to shorts and back means that I'm not digging through the laundry to find pants for cool days and shorts for warm. They also seemed to dry quickly from the water rides during a recent theme park trip. Only complaints are minor. I do wish the velcro on the legs would sung more tightly. I usually slip a ponytail holder over my foot to secure the bottom of the leg and keep it out of the chain. If you are going to ride, I would definitely wear them with traditional bike shorts. They can be a little chafe-y on a bike. A wider range of colors would be nice too. Overall, I recommend them highly for casual wear and outings when you want to look presentable at the grocery store on your way home from your activity.

I was two days into an 8 day backpack in the Frank Church Wilderness with a new pair of pants and the zipper broke - completely. I spent the next 6 days with a pair of pants safety-pinned on one leg. The pins would pop out with any kind of deep bending (like to pick up my pack) and of course the hole let in all the bugs and brush. Nice pants, but get some better hardware!

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants - Women's:
I have a love/hate relationship with these pants after wearing them at least 1 out of every 3-4 days for 7 weeks. I bought them to pack light for a backpacking trip to Europe. I wore them in the city, hiking and biking as both shorts and pants.
They were washed in hotel/hostel sinks and dried overnight on a clothesline (Which was wonderful when I needed to wear them two days in a row). Stain removal was quite wasy also. The pants have an excellent variety of pockets for traveling. Many zip and are somewhat hidden for stashing important items (camera, wallet, etc.) I had no problems with any of the zippers or closures and the pants are still in great shape after all the constant wear.
My main complaint with these pants- the waist line. It's just too high to make the pants attractive and could improve comfort if lowered. (I don't know which version of the pants I have). I never wore these pants without a shirt that would cover the ridiculous waistline.
I also wish pant bottoms were rigged to allow the velcro to hold the legs at capri length or enough to keep the bottoms for dragging if necessary.

Lots of nice pockets. Pants zip off to shorts easily and, even better, zip back on very easily. Sizing chart was accurate for fit and for length. Petite insearm is described accurately. Wish they were an inch longer. Roomy.

I wear these pants any time I go hiking or backpacking. They dry fast and are a great fit. I also wear them around the house, but the material's too lightweight to look any more than casual.
Being long-waisted, I find the relatively high waist is comfortable because it doesn't give me wedgies. When hiking, I always wear the pants long, velcroed close, and tucked into my socks to protect against the ubiquitous ticks. Then I unzip the thighs halfway to provide plenty of air circulation. It's very practical and comfortable.
I love my first pair so much I'm getting a second! They do run about a size smaller than you'd expect.

I wore these for a week-long back country trip to Glacier National Park. They fit okay - I had to go a size up from what I normally purchase. They were a little tight through the hips, which somewhat restricted movement at first. They fit a little higher on the waist than I would have liked. They did stretch after a few days and I had to keep tightening the belt (they actually felt better after a few days on trail, though). On the positive side, they dried VERY quickly. They also kept my legs warm at night when it got cold. I wish they had fit in the beginning like they fit after a few days of wear.
