Comments about REI Sahale Pants - Women's:
I love these pants! The size is consistent with REI sizes (though I am normally a 10 and have to get a 12 in REI brand). I bought the onxy pants and a pair of brown. The brown fit a little snugger in the top/waist and I have exchanged for another pair.
These pants look great with a long sleeve shirt (rolled up sleeves) and a gret pair of boots. I think they are wonderful for work. Very stylish.
I would totally recommend to friends and I plan to go grab another pair before they are completed discontinued for 2008.

Comments about REI Sahale Pants - Women's:
I wore these for nine days in a row at Chinese camp. I brought plenty of other pants and skorts, and even though the 80-degree weather seemed to call for one of my cool skorts, every morning I knew I'd have to carry a lot in my pockets and that the Sahales were the only ones for the job. Through half-hour ping-pong games, tossing the Frisbee, kickboxing classes and walking around camp from 8:00 til 10 at night, I expected the pants to become all saggy with sweat and lose their shape. They didn't. I've never had a problem with the button or any of the snaps or zippers and they're still going strong after my 12 days at camp. The only detractor is that they aren't able to become capris; I just make them the shorter lenght so that the hems don't get dirty and frayed.

I use these pants for hiking and SAR training. I love the fit (but I bought 1 size bigger) and have had no problems with the button. They are the only REI brand pants that really fit me well. I like a loose fit around the waist and rise for freedom of movement in the field. These pants do that without looking baggy. They are cool in hot weather and rugged enough to take some detours off-trail. The pockets are well organized and the zippered pocket is very handy. After training I can wear them in "civilization" without feeling grungy.

Comments about REI Sahale Pants - Women's:
I loved the way these pants looked and wore them for a 4 week trip to Asia. Unfortunately before I even got off the plane the button popped off (it's a pronged holder for a metal button) and continued to fail throughout the trip which was a bummer because it was the only pair of long pants I brought. But, REI is great; they accepted the pants as a return even though I'd worn them and offered a full refund. I was going to exchange them for another pair because I did otherwise really like the pants but a light tug on the button on another pair from the rack sent the button flying off. If this flaw were fixed I would definitely recommend these pants because they are comfortable and very cute. The rise isn't too high and it keeps you covered and they held up really well after being worn and packed.

This was one of two pairs of pants I took on a two-week backpacking trip through Italy in November; I ended up wearing these pants 3/4 of the time. Comfortable, great fit, and stylish-looking (which mattered in Rome and Sorrento), but still great performance on the trails in Cinque Terre. I especially liked the secure pockets (one zip, two buttoned) positioned in such a way as to thwart pickpockets on crowded trains and in stations. Since returning to the US, I have worn these frequently around town. Wish I had bought a second pair in onyx when they had them in my size!

Comments about REI Sahale Pants - Women's:
I wore these in 80+ degree weather while training for a backpacking trip in Alaska, and then for 3 days of the 5+ day hike in mostly cool, very damp (not to say soaking) conditions. They were super-comfortable in both places. I sweated like a pig in the hot weather, but the pants did not feel even the slightest bit stuffy or clammy. During the hike, their stretchiness was great for climbing over the boulders. The only reason that I changed to a different pair was that the cotton facing at the waist got too wet.
And that was the only problem: While the cotton holds shape and feels good against the skin when dry, it does not dry as fast as the rest of the pants. It got soaked in the hot weather, but I washed them when I got home. Over the several days wearing when they couldn't be dried out completely it became a bit uncomfortable.
Someone else commented that when wearing them as capris, the folded fabric tended to sag. While this didn't bother me (who was I going to impress, soaking wet and exhausted), the pants don't look very good in photos after the first day for that reason - though it may have been because they were soaked.

Comments about REI Sahale Pants - Women's:
I really really REALLY like these pants. I own two pair and just ordered a third as I found they now offer an additional color. If they came in additional muted/natural-tone colors I would consider those too! These pants are stylish (more so than they appear on the model on the website, as they are not as short as they appear on the model.) The length is good, the fabric durable, the fit is great, and they seem to be quite stain resistant despite the abuse I give them. The only complaint, as others have suggested, is the button. Of the two pair I have the button came off almost immediately on the first pair, I opted to replace it with a different closure, I've had no issues with the button on the second pair though I would greatly prefer a hook closure system. These are durable enough for hiking yet stylish enough for casual weekend wear and travel. I call them my 'cross-over' pants for that very reason.

Comments about REI Sahale Pants - Women's:
I was really disappointed with these pants. I spent my summer working and traveling in India during monsoon season, and hoped that these pants would be great because they are fast drying, lightweight, and could be worn long or capri-length. I liked that they had a little bit of stretch in them, too. But, they were a disappointment, and I'll be returning mine to REI. This is the first item I've ever decided to return after using.
The biggest problem was that the button pops off. The button on my pants popped off repeatedly - I kept having to re-attach it, until it popped off during the middle of a walk home during a rainstorm, and was lost forever. Thankfully, I had a safety pin on me - otherwise my walk/wade home would have been even more adventurous/embarrassing than it already was.
Secondly, because the fabric is slippery, when the pants are rolled up to capri length, they slip back down on the side without the button. This creates a lopsided, unprofessional, slanted bunching of the pants around your calves - they stay up on the buttoned side (outer side), but come unrolled on the other side and slide down towards your ankles. If you safety pin the pants up, the cuffs will more or less stay in place, but you can't switch easily between capri/long if you pin them up with safety pins. They could really use a second set of buttons/tabs on the other side of the leg.
This is also a minor consideration, but I thought the pants would double as work-appropriate casual slacks, but they didn't really look professional enough to double as casual and business casual pants.

Wear these pants for biking, walking, and just casual outings. They are soooo comfortable. I have two pair and try hard not to just wear them every day of the week. I'm tall, and it's wonderful to find pants that are long enough.

I mainly wear these pants around town. They are a perfect fit and are completely wrinkle free. I wish I would have bought more of them when they had them in my size. They are my favorite pants I own.
