Comments about K2 Easy Roller Coasting Bike:
We bought this for my partner. We wanted to go out and bike together as a family, but the affect of the ride on her joints was just not worth it.
This bike does the trick! We have a lot of fun riding now, and she loves her bike. The suspension seat is really great (it is not just a seat post; it's much better than that). The handlebars put the grips right where her hands are; no leaning forward. It is not a "flat footer", however, so she still gets some efficiency on the pedals.
The sealed planetary gears make a little more noise (clicking while coasting and in upper gears) than you might be used to. One gets used to it fast, though. The three-speed automatic shifting works well, but is only speed dependent. It uses the same pickup to power the unit and sense speed. All you hear on the shift is a quiet little whirring sound. Normally, if one is headed downhill they select a gear that allows them lower pedal RPM since it's easy, and the opposite going up hill. This bike, however, will give you a usable gear for the BIKE SPEED regardless of how hard it is, and you end up slowing down a little more than you otherwise would up a hill so it shifts, and then coasting downhill. It would be nice if it took into consideration pedal loading so it didn't shift up just when you get going up a hill, but this is fine for cruising or even an easy commute and you won't have any problems with Portland area urban hills. Don't try to go mountain biking with it, though.
This system, in combination with the coaster brakes, eliminate most of the cables so you have a REALLY clean, elegant bike.
Note: You may read some professional reviews (there are a couple) that look down on the whole concept, especially on the coaster brakes, and imply that this bike would only work for old people. It's ironic that the same authors would probably defend the fixed single speed bikes with no brakes that the hard-core bikers use. Screw them! Not everyone wants to pedal their butts off all the time to see how fast they can get there or how steep of a hill they can climb. SOME of us just like to ride bikes, get there in a reasonable time and enjoy the scenery without needing physical therapy afterwards. This bike is for us.

Comments about K2 Easy Roller Coasting Bike:
I was looking for a cruiser, around the town, errand friendly, upright sitting, and comfort bike to ride around Portland/Vancouver area. I figure with the significant increases in automobile fuel costs with no slowdown, I must as well ride a bike. Its eco-friendly, dirt cheap maintenance, saves the road, excellent exercise, parking just about anywhere and you can ride in style! I found my choices between the Electra Townie 21, K2 Easy Roller and K2 Easy Street. I made sure to give each one a test ride before investing a lot of money.
This is a sure head turner bike. My girlfriend’s candy eye approval is very convincing. I test rode it outside of the store and it is as comfortable and upright as it was made for. The Dream Ride Design handlebar bends to give you an upright posture and it provides good control and handling of steering. No messy cables/wires that protrude anywhere. The saddle and the parallelogram seat post are superb on the buttock. I love the feel of the big 29’ tires. It is clean, sleek and very pretty bike. I love the forest green color! I received numerous looks and compliments while test riding this outside. It is a no brainer for me not wanting to buy this based on looks and comfort but unfortunately, The Shimano Dynamo auto-shifting 3 gears is just unreliable. It missed downshifting on hills. On a level ground it would erratically shift up, or down depending on the speed of your pedaling. I test rode 2 different sizes and same auto-shifting problem results, what a bummer! I settled for the K2 Easy Street 2008 instead after all is said and done.
I would love to see K2 lose the auto-shifting and this would be a sure winner! I hoping for that improvement next year.
