The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Luggage Tag:
Airport luggage moving equipment seems to be designed to destroy luggage tags. These look like they will last forever. The only thing about them I didn't like was that the UPC tag (the bar code) was glued to the window rather than on the back! I had to scrape them off, then use Pledge furniture wax to finish removing them. I don't know why Pledge works for this, but it does.

Comments about REI Luggage Tag:
These luggage tags are simply the best ones I've ever found (and we've been through a lot of luggage tag failures). If you attach them as shown in the photo (that is . . . be sure to thread it through the wire guide as shown when attaching to your luggage) they'll withstand the worst of airline handling because there's no "loop" to get caught on anything that way. They are VERY durable and strong. Unlike the writer who complained about their weight, I don't find their weight an issue or problem at all. (They're not any heavier than the expensive brand name leather ones available.) Their durability outweighs any complaint. We have used them on lengthy overseas travel and varied domestic trips. They are outstanding. We highly reccommend them.

Comments about REI Luggage Tag:
I wanted some new luggage tags as my previous ones had been destroyed by frequent airport usage. The previous review had suggested how rugged these were so I bought two. They are indeed tough looking and have a strong metallic loop to attach them to your gear. However I have found upon delivery that they are surprisingly heavy. The stated 1.6 oz didn't sound like a lot but it's about the same as 8 quarters, imagine having those in your pocket. I certainly wouldn't want to have to carry these around with me on a hike when I'm carrying enough stuff already. I have no doubt that equally rugged but lighter and less expensive luggage tags can be found elsewhere.

Comments about REI Luggage Tag:
I've used these ID tags on a number of things besides luggage: my expensive raincoat, my camera bag, etc. Over time I have had two or three of them come unscrewed and fall off, which leaves me feeling that I can not trust them, so I stopped using them.

Good looking tag, but unfortunately, not secure. Fell off on my first trip. At [$] a pop...not a cheap loss.

This luggage tag failed the first use on a trip to Iceland. Poor construction of the wire and clasp which broke. I thought it looked strong, I was so wrong.

Comments about REI Luggage Tag:
We bought two of these luggage tags for our trip to Europe. They looked to be durable and come in variety of colors. We attached them to our bags - they screw together. By the time we got to London, my husbands was missing. We figured that he must not have tightened it correctly. Mine was loose so I tightened mine up as much as I could. After a few days of moving around from hotel to hotel, we then caught another plane to Italy and when I retrieved my bag it was loose again. Frustrated I asked my husband to tighten it up again. The third plane a few days later, it was missing off my bag when I went to collect it. If you do buy this recommend you superglue the lock together so it doesn't come off!

I bought two of these for a trip to Japan. Both of them broke in the same way on the first leg of the trip - the cable broke away from the screwing closure piece.

Comments about REI Luggage Tag:
I bought two of these at the Labor Day sale ... couldn't pass them up for the price. But as soon as I got them home, one of the cable twist-lock mechanisms fell apart in my hands before I even had a chance to use it. The weight of the tags doesn't bother me and, other than the cable, the tags appears to be pretty well-made. But I can now sympathize with, and understand, the frustrations of others who have used these on their luggage only to have them disappear or fall off during airport baggage handling. It appears the cable/twist-lock mechanism is simply poorly constructed and doesn't stand up to rough handling.
I don't intend to return them, though. I have my own solution that should be almost fail-proof. I'll fasten them to my luggage with zip-ties. Those things are almost impossible to take apart - you have to cut them off with a pair of wire cutters.

Comments about REI Luggage Tag:
Prior to buying the tage I read several negative reviews. I thought i had a solution, and so far so good. First, as to the screw closure coming loose, use Lock-Tite or a similiar product to prevent accidental loosening. Second, use a permanent marker or a pencil to fill in the info, include your email address.
