Comments about Midland XT511 Emergency Multipurpose Radio:
I was really excited to get this because I figured it was a good product based on its price and the fact that it had a GMRS radio.. I figured "hey, 2 for 1!" I get 1 station on AM and 2 on FM..... I also tried different locations, thinking maybe it was my house or something else interfering w/ reception so I took it to a friends house about 40 mi. away, still didn't work worth a [*]. Didn't test the GMRS, no need.. not keeping this piece of overpriced junk.

Comments about Midland XT511 Emergency Multipurpose Radio:
While Midland probably had great intentions to make money with this device, it's being marketed to the wrong crowd. This device only deserves to be in the toy isle at a big chain discount store. It is not a piece of equipment that should be marketed and purchased by an avid sportsman. It simply does not perform! The FRS radio works about as well as a childs walky-talky! The AM/FM reception is dismal, at best.

Comments about Midland XT511 Emergency Multipurpose Radio:
This product should really be marketed as a FRS base station with weather alert. As a FRS/GMRS radio, it is decent, not great but not bad. However, don't expect to receive much on AM or FM. Beyond FRS/GMRS, the real value is the additional utility features:
Separate battery compartment for Alkalines.
USB port for charging cell phones, iPod, etc...
Integrated LED flashlight.
Includes both car and wall adapters.
Dynamo charging handle.
