    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

by fromGaseous bloating is not a hikers friend Tried the other Mary Jane Farm organic foods with some success, but this product was truly awful. If you ate paste in the first grade then you have a basic understanding of the consistency, and flavor of the beans and rice dish. While as easy to prepare and lightweight as other products in the line, I can't recommend this for its lack of flavor, and for the fact that both myself and my hiking partner had uncomfortable stomach reactions after eating it. It'll stick to your ribs, and whatever else it happens to touch on its way through your system.

by fromNot good on it's own This might be alright in a wrap, but I'd avoid it on it's own. Doesn't have much taste and very little rice, you get about 90% beans and 10% everything else. Also not much flavour, didn't taste bad but it deffinately wasn't enjoyable.

by fromDisappointing I love black beans but this one was like a heavy tasteless paste. Might be OK if you had burrito shells, cheese and salsa but not alone.

by frommuch better than most of the freeze dried options I have eaten every one of the Mary Jane's products that are vegetarian and all of them are at least good and some are excellent (and by excellent I mean tasty even when you are not "Trail hungry" ). With the beans and rice I say add some hot sauce and you have a tasty meal without the near lethal salt levels found in many similar products (check the labels and you will be astounded at the sodium content of competitors). The mary janes products tend to be closer to real food than most backpacking food with far fewer mysterious industrial ingredients. If you want light weight long storage food that is reasonably healthy this is a good bet but I would encourage any first time purchasers of freeze dried meals in a bag to sample a bunch before you hit the trail or oceans. If you like a bit more flavorcheck out the Mary Janes Chilimac but if you want a simple dish the beans and rice are good and they make an excellent side dish as well.

by fromGood stuff A tasty and hearty vegetarian meal. A good Southwestern beans and rice dish that's well seasoned with just a little heat. Some added Tabasco sauce is needed for those who like it hotter. It also has a good mix of protein, fat, complex carbs and minerals.

by fromTake some Tortillas This is a hardy meal but best if you take some tortilla (as they suggest) to put the beans in - otherwise it's a bit much. Really good and tasty.

by fromMake sure you have some tortillas We tried this one out on a weekend trip. We though it was fantastic. Tortillas really make this a meal. Otherwise, it is still really good, but a bit pasty. Some of the best back packing food I have had.

by fromUndeserving of bad rap I just got back from a trip to the Olympic Coast. While I was there I tried out the black beans and rice. Without a doubt it was delicious. The consistency is a little pasty but that doesn't really influence the flavor. It was quick to prepare and even though I couldn't quite get my water to boil (the last time I hike without a camp stove) it still cooked through. I'll buy it again.
