Comments about The North Face Cipher WindStopper Jacket - Men's:
I use this jacket very regularly for trail running and bike commuting around Las Vegas. It works great for highly aerobic activities in around freezing temperatures. It's perfect for high wind and sheds light rain. The one time I rode home from work in a downpour, it soaked through after about 15 minutes, however it didn't lose much insulation when wet and I was fairly comfortable for the whole ride. I've only had it for one season, but it looks as good as new and I'm pretty abusive to my gear. It isn't terribly warm, so it's well suited to Vegas winters, but could be layered under for more warmth if it was very cold. The hood works very well.
I'm 6'0" and ~195 pounds and I wear the large. It has an athletic fit on me, but I can slip some thin layers underneath it comfortably. If I was dealing with colder weather I'd probably prefer an extra large to get beefier layers underneath. I have long arms and the fit is perfect, so I can understand the complaints of those with shorter arms.
All in all, I'm extremely happy with this jacket and I use it all the time. The price is great for what you get. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Comments about The North Face Cipher WindStopper Jacket - Men's:
I live in Houston, TX where it gets below 50 degrees maybe 10 days out of the year. I bought this jacket prior to taking a trip to Alaska last August, and boy was I ever pleased.
The temperature was low 30's to mid 50's the entire week and the only time I felt cold was when I left the zipper open while racing across Prince William Sound in a Zodiac. This jacket blocks the wind like no other jacket I've ever had.
I used it fishing, camping, hiking, gold-panning, biking, and just lounging around. It is extremely water resistant as I was caught in a downpour on the top of a mountain hiking near a glacier, and upon reaching shelter, my lower half and socks were completely soaked, but my arms and torso were perfectly dry.
Additionally, the product description does not claim this, but I definitely fell into some fish blood and innards while fishing, and it washed right out of the jacket when I was able to get to a washing machine days later. I doubt "blood resistant" is a product description usually thought of.
Also, I hooked the sleeve on a fish hook, and after carefully removing it from my sleeve, and then washing and drying it later, there is no sign of a hole or loose threads.
The jacket fits semi-snug, like an athletic fit, but it looked and felt fine with 2 to 3 layers underneath.
The only complaint I have are that the sleeves are long. My arms are a littler short, so the sleeves might be a normal length and it just seems long to me, but the cuffs have a velcro strap that I easily synched up to keep the sleeves from hanging a little past my wrist. Problem solved.
This jacket folds up surprisingly small and works great as a casual jacket with only a single T-shirt underneath it back here in Texas.
Basically this jacket did a little bit of everything for me, and I couldn't be more pleased with it.

Comments about The North Face Cipher WindStopper Jacket - Men's:
I bought this jacket recently and can say nothing bad about it. The look and feel of it is amazing, The Windstopper fabric works awesome, and it is light and packable. I love how water resistant it is too, I tested it under the sink, about 2 mins straight of constant water didn't even get wet, I just shook it and the jacket was barely wet. and it folds up as small as more other flight series jacket. All in all this jacket is awesome. Oh and it doesn't keep ya that warm in the 18 degree North Idaho weather, but it does eliminate the wind chill. I like the Hood too.

Comments about The North Face Cipher WindStopper Jacket - Men's:
I wanted to get this jacket to replace my 200 weight fleece jacket. I really like the look and feel of this jacket. I had to buy a size larger than my other North Face products because of the athletic fit. As others have stated, the sleeves are pretty long; they ended up going to pinky finger length. My main complaint about this jack is that it offers no sort of insulation or warmth of any sort, so it wouldn't really work alone as late fall, early spring jacket. It would also be nice if the hood was detachable or able to roll up into the collar.

Comments about The North Face Cipher WindStopper Jacket - Men's:
I have used my new Cipher twice. First I went on a 6 hour snow shoe trip in the white mts. We went up ~ 1Kft to a lake, across the lake, and returned. Going up I only wore the ciper with smart wool top under it. The temp at lake was 3F with a nasty wind. The hood is very nice and I was very comfortable all day. I weigh 155 lbs and 5'10" and a size large fits me well with enough space for a 200 wt AND 100 wt fleece under the cipher. The jacket breaths very well and stops the wind chill. By itself the cipher has little insulation so it works well with other layers.I would definatly recomend it for cold weather activity.
I also wore the cipher by itself on a 50F pouring rain and wind 30 minute walk. The jacket started to let water in about 20 minutes into the walk. So it is not a rain jacket. But even so it was very comfortable.
Overall I will use this jacket as my primary outer layer for all hiking. And even in the summer when warm I would leave the rain gear behind unless I plan to be out for a long time in cold rain. For winter hiking this jacket works well when combined with other layers it make a very versitle system.
The hood is a nice add and works well, but not as full on the chin as a typical full mountain coat. The sleeves are long and at first appear anoying but they let you seal the wrist well for all types of weather and I like this with glove or mittens in the cold.
I would recomend this jacket to anyone looking for a shell to wear while active outdoors. I always found the gortex shells just do not breath well. This jacket does.
