Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Dual X2 Bike Light:

These things are the bicycle version of aircraft landing lights. Very bright, usable, adjustable light. My night commute is along paved but dark roadways and even the battery conserving low setting is more than adequate to light everything for a long distance in front of the bike.

The first time I used them I kept thinking a car was approaching from behind because of the reflections from distant road signs until I realized it was my lights lighting them up. They're that bright.

Since my commute is only about 45 minutes, battery life is not an issue for me and recharging is no problem.

The only quirky thing I've found is that when I mount the battery pack within about 10" of my wireless bike computer, in flashing mode, the pulses from the battery pack overwhelm the pulses from the wheel sensor and give a constant 30mph reading. I don't use the flash mode very much and when I do, I simply move the batter pack from the stem tube to the top tube - problem solved.

    I love these things.

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Dual X2 Bike Light:

This is a great lightset that is super-easy to aim, adjust, mount, remove and charge. The idiot-proof charger is great for those of us who can't keep track of time (leaving it charging overnight by accident won't kill the battery). Also, it seems pretty water resistant (went through some light rain and lots of fog) and holds a charge long enough for all of my (1-2 hour rides). It's a little heavy, but that goes with its burliness. It's also not helmet-mount compatible which makes it somewhat sketchy (for me) on more rugged trails. I like a light to point to where I'm looking, not where the handlebar is currently headed. That said, it's def. bright enough for lighter trails, certainly for fire-roads Without question, it's more than adequate for night-time road-riding.

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Dual X2 Bike Light:

This is a great light. I commute everyday in the dark and it works like a charm. The two lights and battery are very light and easy to mount on a helmet. The low battery indicator is a nice touch and the battery charges very quickly (in about 4 hours). This is nice because the actual charge of a battery only lasts for about 3 hours.

The two different power settings don't seem to be that different. The flashing mode is also great for visibility purposes.

The only problem I had with this light is that out of the box, the screws which secure the housing were not tight. This allowed water inside the light and it quickly fogs up and dramatically diminishes visibility. Once I dried out the inside of the lights and tightened up the screws, I haven't had any problems since.

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Dual X2 Bike Light:

This light is THE one to own. I have used others that are not as good at providing light to actually ride by. I like the fact that I have not been able to over ride the beams on my commutes home. I live in an area where traffic tends to ignore cyclist and this has been wonderful in rain and night. I can see the road even with opposing traffic. Not to mention the low setting is more than enough light on high there aren't many things you will not see.

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Dual X2 Bike Light:

I've only had this light for a week. I've been using it on flash mode even though it's not dark, and I notice a lot fewer people pull out in front of me on the busy street I commute on.It's really easy to mount and remove, especially if you read the directions! It's so light weight, I don't even notice it's on the bike.Previous I only used a single headlight. But when I demoed this light [...], I immediately noticed the great thing about having dual lights that are independently aimable - with a single light I always had qualms about whether I wanted it aimed closer to see the road better, or farther to see farther ahead. With two lights I can aim one closer and one farther and cover both bases. Since it's so light, weight is not an issue, but having two does shorten the battery run-time. The only other negative is that both lights run from the same control, so both are on at the same level, e.g., they are not controllable individually.

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Dual X2 Bike Light:

I've had this light for about a year now, and have used it for perhaps 1000 nighttime miles. It offers lots of light for the weight and cost.

However, it's unreliable. The first one's charger died after a week. The second one had a faulty switch on the battery. I'm on the third one now, and I have had a couple of problems with it that I can't reliably reproduce.

Also, the beam pattern is idiotic--it's a glorified flashlight, not a bike light. Bikes are vehicles, and vehicles have specific needs for throwing light. Look at the beam pattern on a car headlight. It's designed to give good visibility way out in front and out to the sides, to show you what's immediately in front of your wheels, and not to blind oncoming traffic--hence the sharp vertical cutoff on vehicular lights. This light has a symmetrical round beam pattern like a flashlight, making it sociopathic.

Still, the USA market is dominated by these glorified flashlights, and this one is the best compromise I've used. So even though its design and construction are much less than they could be, I have to recommend it relative to the rest of the market.

Don't get me wrong this is the best light to use for commuting because you can actually see the road. Only problem though the battery life is really short. Oh no!!!! And the plastic button on the battery pack keeps falling off. I'm on my second return because of this. Now I'm having problems with the cables and lights going on and off. Now that's scary!! Sorry but I wouldn't recommend this to a friend. I'm going to buy another light from a different company. Too many oh nooooooooo's............

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Dual X2 Bike Light:

Even after reading other reviews, I found the light to be amazingly bright. This dual light setup can provide as much light as the low beams of passing cars, but not as much beam width.

I was curious how the single light would compare, so I put my hand in front of one of the lights while riding. It became obvious that having two lights and aiming them to cover a wider section of road is a significant advantage in those places where it is really dark. If you do most of your riding on routes with good street lights, you could get by with the single light version and get twice the battery life.

It would be real nice to be able to switch off one light and save the battery for a while. But it isn't set up like that.

As others have noted, battery life is short. But the battery and lights don't add much weight - felt about the same as the Cateye LED with for AA cells that I have been using. I can recharge the battery when I get to work, so it works for me.

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Dual X2 Bike Light:

This is my third "serious" light system and my first with LEDs. My concern with just a single LED was that the contrast wouldn't be enough to see comfortably. The second light gives just enough additional brightness, and just enough offset to increase depth perception. The less-bright mode is sufficient for most mornings, but when we start out it is just pitch black and I really appreciate the full brightness. Also found these reviews very helpful in making my decision, so thanks to the other reviewers!

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Dual X2 Bike Light:

Very powerful for the price. Can be used for many purposes, unless going really fast through unknown mountain trails (which I have not done). I have used them at the trail, when it was pitch dark, and compared to the $40 halogen lights others had, these lights seemed more like car headlights. Unless ready to spend over $400 on HIDs, there is no better choice for the price. The only thing I don't like is the battery life (1:45 on high). I would rather have a slightly bigger battery and more life. At the trail, I was able to put them on the low settings and still be able to see everything. This gives more ride time. Overall, a very good choice.
