The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Yaktrax Pro:
These are the first set of chains I've owned. They work OK for light ice and hard pack snow trails that are completely covered but I wouldn't use them on concrete or places with exposed rock or gravel. The rubber bands under the feet holding the springs are thin and could break easily, the springs on my did snap in half and I lost one piece. They also slide backwards on inclined slopes. Not that easy to put on either. I also have the kind of chains with "diamond grips". These work much better and have metal chain instead of rubber bands and I have no qualms about walking on concrete or rock spewn icy paths. The diamond kind are also just as easy to put on as these. If you have these on some spare shoes for walking to the mailbox or emergency use in the car they are OK but for hiking on snow and ice covered paths I'd get the diamond grip kind for about 11 bucks more, you will be glad you did.

Comments about Yaktrax Pro:
My wife and I both purchased yaktrax for use in ice/packed snow. The product performed as described and provided plenty of additional traction.
Service and delivery comments:
Towards the end of the warranty period (90 days from date purchased) and after significant heavy use, my wife's pair were damaged. Following the warranty instructions I shipped the damaged pair, proof of purchase, and a note describing the nature of the damage. Within a few weeks Yaktrax had sent a replacement pair and a personal note. In my opinion, the product is of high enough quality to justify purchasing. Considering the quality of the item and the excellent customer support, I plan on being a Yaktrax supporter for life.

Comments about Yaktrax Pro:
If you want something to keep your footing on icy trips to the mailbox, or trips across an icy mall parking lot these will do just fine. Don't think of using these if you will be hiking icy, hilly terrain. Grip is OK on hardpack snow, but on an icy incline they are next to useless.
As far as durability, if you stay on flat ground you can get a few seasons out of the product but take them out on a hiking trail you'd be lucky to get 2-3 trips out of them. There are far better products for about the same price

Comments about Yaktrax Pro:
These work best on snow, slushy snow, and rough ice. They're not too great on glare ice, but combined with walking slowly and carefully, they're still much better than nothing. As others have pointed out, Yaktrax don't last forever, but the price - even if they only last one winter - is still cheaper than a broken bone or a concussion. Note that while I ranked them at 4 stars (since we can only pick whole stars) I'd actually put them closer to 3.5 stars. But I'd still recommend them to others (and I have).

Comments about Yaktrax Pro:
I was recommended the Yaktrax Pro buy sales associates at 2 different REI's, so I decided to try them out. I'm just glad REI will take them back if you aren't satisfied. I only used them once. The stitching for the strap came loose. Both traction soles, even the one that didn't break, slide back providing only traction on the heel. I'm disappointed the REI sales associates recommend this product.

Comments about Yaktrax Pro:
A dear friend with MS shared a WONDERFUL tip. She keeps a set of YakTrax on a pair of shoes (in her case – slip on boots for ease of application) in her car so that when she arrives at a client's home, she can safely walk in and out. This is brilliant!
From another friend: I finally got a chance to use those slip-on crampons yesterday at Sugarbowl. They were great! Walking in an icy and snowy parking lot is usually the most dangerous part of a ski day.
I slipped in the parking lot on the way to cross country ski. I landed on my hip on the hard pavement. I've been a YakTrax fan ever since. Note about sizing – Order a size larger than you think so you can more easily put them on your heavy walking shoes/boots.

Comments about Yaktrax Pro:
I bought the yaktrax pro primarily for running during the winter months in Maine. I average about 100 miles/month and they were wasted by Feb. The rubber broke and the metal springs were in bad shape before that. Will not hold up.
I also bought a pair to leave on my boots for walking the dog during the winter months. These are still working but the springs have already started breaking. They might make it through the season. Just walking? Really?
The bottom line is light use may get them through a proper winter if you walk lightly and not often. I would pick something else. Hope this helps.

Comments about Yaktrax Pro:
I got this product because I normally walk to work in the winter, and I have to deal with sidewalks which have been completely cleared, and some which have been packed down to ice.
I like that I can throw them in my bag, and put them on if it turns out to be more icy than I thought, or take them off if it turns out there is no ice to be found.
My main concern with this product is the durability. At the end of last winter (after maybe about 20 miles of use) I noticed some of the metal bits were wearing pretty thin in places, and one of the coils near the toe had worn through and the end had fallen off. The trend continued this winter with the coils wearing through in several places, so now they're starting to slip out of place when I use them, and I haven't even put five miles on them this year.
I really like this product, but I don't know if I am going to buy a second pair when my set breaks. I might get the walkers and just use them when I take out the trash, go to dig my car out of the snow, or other short trips around the house.

Comments about Yaktrax Pro:
bought last year and used twice while shoveling my inclined driveway, and they were great. went for short (2 mile) hike with minimal snow/ice on the trail and they broke. not much good on smooth ice, but decent on packed snow trail. I just can't believe they couldn't hold up to such light use. spend twice as much and get much better product elsewhere. buying these is a waste of money, unless you expect it to be single-use.

Comments about Yaktrax Pro:
These lasted only one season until one of the rubber straps broke. Customer service said "No Exceptions" when I repeatedly asked them to replace the broken one. I'm going to try Kakos instead.
