The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about MagLite Mini Maglite LED 2-AA Flashlight:
Purchased for an adventure race during night hours. Since it was not clear from reading the packaging or the company website on how long would the light stay on on regular alkaline batteries, I tested it, and found that it did not last more than two hours. Another disappointment when comparing the flashlight with another LED light was that when rotating the head to change the focus of the beam, there were dark concentric circles when setting the flashlight to project a more diffuse and wide beam. Generally speaking, I find that competitors have better products. Even the optics element, the lenses, could have been made better, but it feels "old technology". To make things worse, the company website does not mention at all the average battery time or any test result what so ever (other competitor product websites do show instead). In fact, the fact that the light bulb is showingly advertised to be a 3-Watt bulb is misleading in making the customer believe that it will shine more light than a 1-Watt product, when instead, in my comparison test, the 1-Watt competing product shined more light at both close and far distances. BTW, the fact that the beam is adjustable means that I expect the product to provide some kind of lenses/opticts to divert the light in more of a wide angle, but the way this product does it seems to filter away light resulting with a darker output. From a friend who owns the same light but with a battery casing to hold 3 AA (instead of 2) and uses recharcheable batteries instead of regular alkaline, I got that his light output lasts more than two hours.

Comments about MagLite Mini Maglite LED 2-AA Flashlight:
There are two types of LED 2 AA cell maglites, this, and the older version that is dim and eats batteries for breakfast. This is definitely not the latter. There are two brightness settings (and two emergancy flashers) that can be accessed by turning the flashlight on and off. On (full brightness) 2nd on (25% brightness) 3rd on (strobe) 4th on S.O.S.). I almost feel bad for using full brightness anywhere other people will be, so I mostly use the 25% setting unless I'm looking for something (like a geocache at night)
One complaint people have that bugs me, is "there's no spare LED". Think, for one second, what they just said. LEDs last thousands of hours, by the time it dies, chances are this incredibly hardy flashlight, will have other problems than a burnt out LED. Just saying. These are a bit pricey compared to their non LED version, but they are much, much brighter.
The few complaints I do have are unimportant. One, the bottom no longer has a hole for a keyring or strap, but this is also a distinguishing feature for the GOOD LED version. Then the holster I SWEAR had a snap in the back on my old maglite, this does not. I had to use an S biner to secure it to the back of my modular MULE Camelback. Now that its on, I feel I'm much happier about how well its secured, but it would have been a lot easier if it just had a snap.

Comments about MagLite Mini Maglite LED 2-AA Flashlight:
I have had two of these lights, a 2 AA version and a 3 AA version. Yes, there are better, brighter, what have you lights out there, but I think that the MagLite LED models are extremely hard to beat for the price. For the price of one SureFire, you could have six MagLites, and they use more common batteries. Currently, my EDC light is a Leatherman Serac S3, but its CR123A battery gets saved for emergency use. When I'm home and need a utility light, it's the MagLite LED loaded with Energizer Lithium AA's I reach for. The worst that can be said about the MagLite LED is that it is a vast improvement over the original MagLite. If you can't afford or won't splurge on one of the bizzarely expensive alternatives, you won't be disappointed in a MagLite LED, and when the bizzaro-priced models are superseded next year by even brighter versions, you'll be well-chuffed not to have overspent. The only difficulty I've had is that the alkaline batteries I had in the 3 AA version leaked and I ruined the LED module trying to get the batteries out. Totally my fault.

Comments about MagLite Mini Maglite LED 2-AA Flashlight:
I was skeptical about buying the new LED mini-Maglite because of the some of the comments I had read, but after having used it awhile, this is a perfect flashlight.
I really like the electrical switch design. I fly as a helicopter pilot and wanted something both for looking the plane over, for providing communication signals, and for providing emergency signals. This does everything. The ability to focus in is great for inspecting the aircraft, and though this may not be fully weapons grade as the most expensive flashlights, it is pretty darn close. Diffusing the light beam is perfect for signaling, so you do not hurt the other person, and you can get a variety of colored lenses with their accessory kit for like 5 bucks. The strobe feature is great for emergency purposes. Switching between the modes is very easy, which involves just turning it off then back on quickly. Leave it off for a few seconds, and it switches back to normal. Basically, you just forget about it until the rare times you want to use it, and it's there without any additional buttons or switches. The light is extremely small for how bright it is and fits easily into slender pockets (it seems to be made to fit the leg pocket on a flight suit). An amazing flashlight for how inexpensive Maglite has been able to keep it while still being Made in the USA.

I have two of these and will get some more for around the house. It has good battery life then it goes off, replace 2 batteries and you good again. This is not like you old Maglite that would go slowly dim. I use this light daily at work and trust as the only light that I bring canoeing in the BWCA. You will not be left in the dark with this flashlight.

Comments about MagLite Mini Maglite LED 2-AA Flashlight:
Mag lites are decent flash lights, there durable, but very "old school". After purchasing my Surefire flash light, I will NEVER buy any other flashlight brand, there more durable, brighter, smaller, basically one level up from a Mag lite, if you want something better invest into a surefire.
Yes I would recommend this but only if you cannot afford a surefire

Comments about MagLite Mini Maglite LED 2-AA Flashlight:
This flashlight is quite a bit brighter than everything else REI offers in its price range, but the twist-to-activate electronic switch is garbage. The first one I got would sometimes turn on if I twisted it back and forth like a maniac for ten or fifteen seconds, and would then turn off. I exchanged it for another one that was, at first, more reliable -- but then that one started doing the same thing when I used it outside (rainy, about 45 degrees F). I'll be returning it shortly.

They are very durable and very waterproof.
I've put mine thru the wash a couple times; no problem.
You can use it as a lantern too; unscrew the lens, flip it, and insert the bottom of the handle into it to use it as a base. Now you have a lantern.
I'm really smitten by the new LED headlamps available today... but when it comes to a flashlight, this is all I'll get.

it was the best flashlight i had ever owned, until it happened. my friends and i where looking at each others flashlights and then one of them took off the top of the light. and he bent the bulb with it. i couldn't find a extra bulb anywhere so i just got another one. there the best you can buy till somebody messes around. PS if you want to buy this flashlight buy it but dont adjust the light so the bulb bends =)

I received this as a Christmas present and it has been in my purse ever since. I'm a huge fan of headlamps while backpacking and camping, but I decided I wanted a brighter light with a focused beam that I could easily direct where I needed it - and this fit the bill perfectly. I used it during a recent power outage, I use it find things in a dark car and it will come with me on every camping and backpacking trip even though it doesn't qualify as "ultralight." This is weight I'll gladly suck up.
