  • Rainier's bindings keep you firmly in control and are easy to secure and undo
  • Cinch bindings are all about grip, comfort and tenacious traction; with one pull of the cammed straps the entire binding locks securely around feet
  • Large padded heel instep panel is cushioned for extra comfort when strapped down tight; it's snug but not suffocating
  • Integrated, bear-claw style crampons with a double row of aggressive, powdercoated stainless steel teeth offer superior climbing traction
  • Below the heel plate, a rear crampon provides exceptional lateral stability in the most difficult traversing conditions
  • Aluminum-tube, V-tail frames with unique elevated tails provide exceptional maneuverability in deep snow
  • Delta Live-Action hinges lift the tails of the shoes from the snow with every step for added mobility and speed
  • The hinges also provide extra lateral support and grip when traversing slopes

Comments about Redfeather Rainier 30 Snowshoes:

These look great and did well for short stretches. I'd like to encourage this Midwestern company, but the shoes slowed me a lot as the afternoon went on. The bindings have a detachable (not intentionally so) black plastic locking buckle that often (a) slipped, and (b)twice sailed off into the snow...causing some lost time looking for it since it's essential. The frequent repositioning and adjustment of the bindings (and yes, we read the instructions patiently) were a negative feature. My partner never had to touch her (Tubbs Venture 30) bindings once adjusted. Use was in moderate (8 inch)snow conditions with some steepish uphill/downhill segments on trails and in woods over a varied course of 3 miles. Re-engineer the plastic pop-off part and these could be really good shoes, but not a good buy as they are.

Comments about Redfeather Rainier 30 Snowshoes:

Within the first 30 minutes of use on groomed XC trails and deep powder, the bindings worked themselves loose several times and the final act was the binding broke when I tried to tighten them....I had to limp back to the lodge and call it quits.

Comments about Redfeather Rainier 30 Snowshoes:

These were a Christmas gift from my girlfriend who had her own (cheaper) pair of snowshoes, and we were both very excited to try them out after a recent heavy snow. However, not forty minutes into the outing - after having to stop repeatedly to re-tighten the bindings - the plastic binding broke. I hiked the remaining mile or so through deep snow with one snow shoe. Not recommended at any price.

Comments about Redfeather Rainier 30 Snowshoes:

First time out the bindings felt loose so I tried to snug them up. The bindings eyelet SNAPPED! Good thing a friend had a bungie strap in her dads garage so we could still go out in the woods. That was until they kept sliding off and I didn't dare tighten the straps anymore. Besides that they looked nice but the new binding design made them really difficult to keep on.

Comments about Redfeather Rainier 30 Snowshoes:

First time on snowshoes, the product made it fun and easy to traverse both gentle and steep hills. Yet when I twisted my foot while climbing over a tree limb, the plastic base plate under the ball of my foot shattered in two. Would have expected it to be more durable. Now I'll spend tomorrow returning them instead of snowshoeing.

The strap has a rivet that can wedge beneath the clamping lever and when pushed, breaks the clamp. I broke mine trying readjust the binding after walking only 50 yards.

I was amazed when I got these snowshoes home that they would barely fit over my street shoes. There was no way they would even come close to fitting over my winter boots. Beware before you try these snowshoes.

So many reviewers refer to breakage, and I add another to it--first time out. If there is a flaw we all are uncovering, either better directions for tightening the binding or a redesign are warrented. I hope to be able to return mine.
I wanted to buy from a regional manufacturer--the frame seems fine--needs different bindings.

Comments about Redfeather Rainier 30 Snowshoes:

Im extremely dissapointed I bought these. never even got to take them on any full day treks by the time a buckle on each toe broke, along with one eyelet where the strap feeds through. I was simply trying to keep my boot tightly strapped in since it was coming loose every 20 yards when the bindings started falling apart. Had to walk back in my boots and gaitors in 3 ft. of snow. Thanks Redfeather.

Comments about Redfeather Rainier 30 Snowshoes:

The first pair I bought were a Christmas gift for my parents, my father has had surgery on both shoulders and the binding looked like it would be easy to use with his limited upper body mobility. The binding was easy for him to get in and out of (size 10.5 boot) and that is what appealed to me, especially that he is a casual user. I was actually surprised that he enjoys snowshoeing as much as he did--I credit that to the comfort and simplicity of the Ranier.

Seeing my parents will only use these on relatively tame terrain I wanted to give them a go. I tend to be hard on my gear so after reading some of the reviews on the REI's website I wanted to see how the Ranier would hold up.

I have since used them on varied terrain, steep climbs, deep snow, and hard pack. They worked great, and I had no breakage. I wear a NorthFace Snowkat men's 12.5 for snowshoeing and they fit perfect--MOST COMFORTABLE BINDING I've ever worn. I have also used Atlas, Yubba, Tubbs, and MSR and own an older pair of Redfeather shoes.

I have since bought myself a pair of Raniers--regarding the breakage I talked to the staff at a local outdoor shop that sells Redfeather and they told me the plastic has been reformulated to a tougher material. I use my Raniers a couple times a week and have yet to see any problems.

Too bad some of the other folks didn't like them as much as I did. I would definitely recommend Redfeather--plus I think they are the only snowshoes still made here in the good ole USA.
