Comments about REI Summit Winter Poles - Pair:
Although described for use in the snow, these were very useful for my recent backpacking trip. I was very pleased at how much they helped alleviate pain in my knees, especially on downhill stretches. I also relied heavily on them for balance on uneven steps. The metal tips held firmly on rocks and soil alike. I was able to trust my full weight on them when hopping down deep steps with a full pack. This is the first backpack trip in years in which I returned with my knees pain-free!
I added the REI Trekking Pole Basket - Pair (Item # 753989, $6.00), as I would be using these in rocky and soft soil, not snow.

Comments about REI Summit Winter Poles - Pair:
I used these poles for one season of backcountry skiing. The baskets and tips broke after a half dozen trips. The poles are strong but have nothing on the end and I can't find replacement tips.

Comments about REI Summit Winter Poles - Pair:
I used it on a two day hike. So far, it seems reliable. The strap is a bit rough which may make it uncomfortable at times. The grip has a nub where it looks like the rubber is cut. It caused some irritation at the time. I have since just used a knife to even it out and now it's a non-issue. I do wish the handle was extended a little longer so I didn't have to re-adjust so often based on the changing slope.
