The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI XR 10 x 50 Binoculars:
I purchased these binoculars for a trip to Alaska. I am a photographer and wanted a good pair of binoculars to scan both the landscape and over water. These binoculars were everything I wanted and more. They provide excellent clarity at all distances with EXCEPTIONAL close-up focusing ability. Ok, they are not Swarovski's but for the price they are an excellent pair of binoculars. I really liked the attached lens caps that cannot be lost. I do wear glasses and even though these binoculars have really nice adjustable rubber eye-cups I still prefer using them without my glasses, but that it a personal preference. The compact size is really nice too and they are not heavy hanging around your neck. They come with a pretty decent padded strap. If you are looking for a really nice pair of 10x50 binoculars in this price range then look no further. These will be all you will ever need. I didn't give them 5-stars because I would reserve that kind of rating for the $1000-plus binoculars (we all know those brands) but for value for the price these cannot be beat.

Comments about REI XR 10 x 50 Binoculars:
Overall a very good pair of binoculars. The construction is solid, the optical quality seems excelleent, and they focus well up close. The 10x power is excellent for longer distances-notably smaller birds at a distance or across large bodies of water. They are also exceptionally bright in the twilight hours. For the power/size of the binoculars I find their weight good, although they're not ultra-lights. They work well with glasses. I like the lense caps but others who I've shared the binoculars with don't. The only other drawback is a bit of "shake" when viewing but no more than a typical 10x binocular. I'd actually give them 4 1/2 stars.

Comments about REI XR 10 x 50 Binoculars:
These binoculars are great! The close up focus is amazing, Can see small birds such as Kinglets at close range. Could be used for butterfly watching. I went on my first Audubon field trip yesterday, it was a rainy day. In the rain I had to walk with my hand over the eyepiece. A shield would help. They have a front lens cap attached. The small size is good.

Comments about REI XR 10 x 50 Binoculars:
These binoculars are equivalent to $1000 + models from other manufacturers, and are a true bargain. I waited for the [$] member's sale, which made them a steal.I take them on every trip, from a casual walk to intense hike, year round. I love lending them to other travelers who want a decent view of something special, and hearing their amazement at the improvement over the binocs they are carrying. The biggest gain over my old binocs? The awesome light gathering capability at dawn and dusk, my favorite and usually most rewarding observation times. Nothing better for concerts and operas, either! And the close focus has to be experienced to be believed.

Comments about REI XR 10 x 50 Binoculars:
My girl friend and I have recently become avid birders but we were having fogging and focusing problems with my old 10x30 binos. The REI XR 10X50s are an amazing improvement! Easy to focus and images are bright and crystal clear. Last week she spotted a lesser flamingo in a crowd of white pelicans and seagulls at 250 yards. (With my old binos we could barely distinguish the pelicans from the seagulls at this distance.) And the close-focus is very useful for checking the markings on smaller birds at 15 - 25 feet. Waterproof and durable are other features of the REI XR 10X50s we really like. Before purchasing we compared them to several other brands with comparable features, including Nikons, and felt that the REIs came out on top in terms of both quality and value.

Comments about REI XR 10 x 50 Binoculars:
I was quite impressed by the clarity of images with these. They are pretty comparable to other binoculars in this price range during daylight, but where I was really amazed was at how sharp and focused these were in the middle of the night. Dim streetlamp light was plenty to see the texture of bricks on a building 150 feet away. My other binocs didn't come close in that area. The other nice thing for me was the relatively heavy weight of them absorbed a lot of the shake from my hands. The lighter binoculars make it hard to hold the image still. In contrast, they're uncomfortably heavy for my wife who had a harder time holding them up compared to the lighter ones.

Comments about REI XR 10 x 50 Binoculars:
I've had these binoculars for a couple of weeks and have not had an issue at all. Focusing is easy and they work very well for star gazing. I am planning on taking these on backpacking trips for wildlife viewing. It is said you usually get what you pay for and you definitely get a good bang for your buck with these. Oh and these binoculars also have a tripod mount on them.

Astigmatic error - stars appear blurred and 'pointy' rather than pinpoints of light

Comments about REI XR 10 x 50 Binoculars:
I chose these over other 10x50 binoculars for their close focus and lighter weight. Unfortunately they weigh more than the 27.5 oz. stated in the specs. Complete with case - 38.4 oz., with just eyepiece covers and strap - 34 oz. and bare bones - 32 oz. Still great for the price but not as advertised. I expect the specs will be corrected.
As these are overall a nice pair of binoculars, I may keep them but will look at other lightweight options before deciding.
