Comments about Merrell Radius Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots - Women's:

I am an avid hikers and venture to the mountains every weekend. I was looking for durable waterproof boots that can keep me dry and warm on the rainy days we do not lack here in the Northwest.

I purchased pair of Merrells and the first impression was great. They were one of the most comfortable boots I ever wore. They needed virtually no breaking in. I took them brand new for 9 mile hike and returned with not one blister.

The problems came few hikes later when I found myself in downpour on really wet train and all of the sudden the water started seeping in and by the time I was done my socks were drenched. I experienced the same problem next time while hiking in light rain. Then one of the shoes started to tear - this was after only 7 or 8 hikes.

I thought maybe this was defective pair and the seemes were not sealed properly so I exchanged them for same boots just to experience the very same thing. Hiking in dry conditions or snowshoeing on dry powder was no problem but as soon as the trail got little wet my socks would be soaked within 10 minutes of walking.

I finally gave up and got Gore Tex boots to see if they will make any difference in wet conditions. My Merells will have to wait for dryer weather in the summer before they hit trails again.

Comments about Merrell Radius Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots - Women's:

I bought these boots when we made the decision to do a backpacking trip and started hiking every week to prepare. The first hike I went on with these boots was an 8 mile loop, with a 2000 foot elevation gain in the first mile and a half. The first part of the hike was more climbing over boulders and up steep slopes of loose rock than it was walking. I was amazed by the traction I had with these boots even on the loose rock; and by the time we got to the summit my feet were the only part of me that was not hurting. I never had any blisters from these shoes and have already put close to 50 miles on them in the past couple months. The only thing I was worried about with these shoes after my first couple hikes was their water resistance because I read some other reviews saying they weren't very water resistant. So I decided to test them out at the end of a trip by walking into a river totally covering the boots in water up to the ankle and my feet stayed completely dry. Ever since then I have been tromping through creeks without a worry! I love these boots!

Comments about Merrell Radius Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots - Women's:

First of all, my normal shoe size is 8, and I bought these at 9 1/2 to ensure my toes did not touch, and that the boots would make room for bulky wool socks and trail swelling. The Radius lace system is such that you can buy a larger boot and easily tighten the laces enough to hold the foot snug without sliding around, preventing blisters while giving yourself extra swelling room.

I also have a bunion on the right foot that made two models of Keen waterproof boots uncomfortable just when trying them on and walking in the store, but not these. Also, the Merrill vibram soles on the Radius are FAR SUPERIOR to the rubber soles on Keens. Keen would do well to lose their rubber and get vibrams. Slippery boots are no fun and DANGEROUS. I broke my ankle in June this year due to overly weak/flexible ankles and won't go on the trail without mids or high tops. I cannot afford to take a chance with anything less than vibram.

I didn't have time to break these in before the trail, but they did just fine. My plantar fascitis from wearing day/tennis shoes went away the week I wore these, but I probably could have done with a little bit more arch support. That said, no pain whatsoever with these boots. The only dampness my feet encountered was sweat. I was amazed I had no bunion joint pain with these boots.

Comments about Merrell Radius Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots - Women's:

I'm a total Merrell fan. I wear their hiking boots and casual shoes constantly (have several styles in all of them). The boots do run small and wide, so you will need a larger size than you might be used to (you don't want toes bumping the end), and narrow feet won't be happy in these. I have medium width feet and love them because with proper socks they don't bind, blisters, or bruise the feet. The waterproofing is so great because I hike a lot of water areas. Have never had a problem with wet or sore feet. They also don't seem to need a long break-in period. I have used them straight out of the box on moderate 4 mile hikes with no problem. They hold up well, IMO, but that's an individual thing, as hikers know. However, they are a 5 in my book.

Comments about Merrell Radius Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots - Women's:

My daughter and I hiked most of the Appalachian Trail last year wearing these boots. They were great! In most shoes I wear a 7.5, but I always get 8s in these. Except for the rain in Maine they held up against wetness pretty well. With day after day of crossing flooded streams, we gave up on dry feet. But the vibram soles were great on the wet rocks of the north! In 2,000 miles of daily abusive use we went through three pairs each. This year we will head back to The Whites and southern Maine and we'll definitely be wearing a new pair of Merrils.

Great boot. Very comfortable, durable, tough, pretty, supportive ankle, no need for inserts. I would buy it a 1/2 size larger then you are used if your feet are prone to swell during hikes.

Comments about Merrell Radius Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots - Women's:

Considering these are my first hiking boots since 1988, they feel great. The only con so far, they rub my ankle bone, but maybe they will loosen up a bit when I hit the back country. Also, my feet were so hot just wearing them around the house and on a short walk through our neighborhood. Other than that, I love 'em! Hey "ali under the stars," I actually bought mine a half size bigger because my actual size was too small, just a thought.
