      Poor sub for river dry bags

          Theory is good, we have used zip locks (doubled) in roll up rubber dry bags for years. No food smells.

          This product not only does not stay closed, but ruptured in the pack on the first day. Nothing in it but dehydrated foods, fruit roll ups etc. No boxes or sharp edges.

          Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

              These expensive zip-lock bags are useless because the zip-lock tops won't stay zipped when jammed into a pack or stuff sack.

              We live in Alaska and nearly all of our hikes are in bear country. I used one on the Resurrection trail on a 6 day hike to hold my snacks together and was pleased with it despite the expense. I was then convinced to use the other two for my boys (8 & 11 years) to carry their snacks for the Chilkoot trail during a 5 day hike. It helped keep their snacks and wrappers together with an added assurance that food scents were kept to a minimum. Since we do a lot of hiking in bear country I am concerned about them carrying food in their packs and attracting unwanted bear attention, but like for them to have some on hand in case they get lost or separated. The adults carry the rest of the food and garbage in our family.

              I liked their flexibility and that they could fit easily into the pocket of our packs. I felt pretty secure about their effectiveness although the boys were rougher with the bags and the top of one tore, but it still could be sealed. I should have explained their use and expense beforehand, because they took better care of them after I did.

              I didn't trust the effectiveness enough to allow the boys to carry the fragrant pepperoni, though. Nor am I sure how effective they are if small punctures are made with regular wear and tear. Be careful nothing sharp or angular is kept in the bags and you'll get more use out of them.

                  Very unhappy with this bag. I brought it on a canoe trip this weekend and it ripped very easily. It also was very difficult to keep closed.
