Comments about Volkl Mantra Skis - Men's:
I have skied on these for 8 days so far this season. I bought them without demoing which is unusual for me but heard so much positive about them i decided to go for it. So far, I have skied powder, junk, groomed and one day of solid ice (rained the night before and then set up). These skis performed well in all and exceptional in the powder and skied out stuff. I was most surprised at how well they carve and hold an edge. They did ok on the ice but it was tough. I demoed some AC30's that day that really did not do much better. Really a fun ski I highly recommend.

Comments about Volkl Mantra Skis - Men's:
I could probably add usage for moguls and icy conditions, and even though this ski does really well in both it just doesn't seem fair to the rest :P
Amazing grip cruising fast. Wails through chopped pow like it was groomed.
Demo'd 177s but those seems a little hooky and unstable for aggressive skiing. I went with the 184s and all is perfect for my 175 lbs. No studder, just a gas. Regardless of your weight and lever, you will want the extra float provided by a longer choice than you would pick for a carver. One observation about the Mantras is that the running surface length compared to the advertised length is a lot shorter than say my Rossignal carvers. ie: a 177cm Mantra measured a few centimeters shorter than the 176cm Rossi's. So, the effective running length of the 184s is only 3-4cm longer than my 176 Rossi's. Go figure... and take that into account.
For non-AT skiing, get bindings with as low a boot mount as possible for wide skis. AT bindings (or anything with a plate) make wide skis a little screwy for carving as that puts you further off the snow and increases lateral leg travel needed for edging.
The new white topsheet this year is more subtle - looks good. A guy on the chair asked me if they held up well and if the little black lines were scratches :) I said no, they come pre-scratched. lol.
The more conventional shape (non-twin) is definitely better for da bumps. This made my decision to not get the Gotamas. The Mantras move nicely through soft bumps of any size.
As yet, I haven't found a thing to complain about... except waiting for the Christmas tourists to go home.

Comments about Volkl Mantra Skis - Men's:
The Mantra is, and has been for several years, simply the best one-ski quiver for a western skier. It's fat enough to float in the fluff, carves like a racing ski on the groomers, and can turn quick enough to take on even the tight trees at Mary Jane. Throw a pair of AT bindings on them and you've got a great dual-purpose setup for frontside and backcountry use. Highly, highly recommended.

Super stable over almost every type of snow. I love the feeling they have when they don't deflect off snow debris, stays on course. I have used them skinning, not too heavy.
I love this ski.

Comments about Volkl Mantra Skis - Men's:
You simply can't go wrong with Volkl's Freeride line of skis....particularly the Mantra. I have the '07 mounted with Tele bindings. This ski does it all. Powder, crud, bumps, high speed cruisers, switch, even crusty hardpack. Whatever you ski you are almost sure to like these skis. Due to the construction the ski is a little heavy compared to other tele skis, but it just wouldn't be the same without. Enjoy the ride!

Comments about Volkl Mantra Skis - Men's:
[...]I spend last season in Jackson Hole putting over 80 days on my '07 Mantras (w/ AT bindings). They handle piste well and floated me (180 lbs) in the backcountry. I carried them around on my back daily and was happy w/ the weight. The one knock (is it really) is that they love speed, but I give two big thumbs up for those looking for one, all-around winner.
