Comments about REI Ski Carrier:
this carrier is by far the best. both skis and poles will strap together although it'll take some practice strapping. i have yet to test its durability since i've only used it 3x

Comments about REI Ski Carrier:
Performs as expected. The extra length left after strapping to skis can be minimized by inlcuding your poles. The strap appears to be best fitted for wider, shaped skis where a more narrow ski may not fit as snug. No problems attaching on the mtn while dressed in gear. I do prefer to keep my skis more vertical while carrying to avoid collision with anyone, vs skis parallel to ground....practice will resolve ;-)

Comments about REI Ski Carrier:
I bought this to carry my new cross country skis and tried it when I got the skis back from the store. It will work but I wish they had put a little more thought into it. The item is about 3 feet long with a 16 inch cross strap on each end that have about 5 inches of hook and loop fastner on them (velcro). You just wrap the cross straps around your skis and poles and the long strap is the handle. The main issue I have is that the velcro needs to cover more of the cross strap. If you attach the velcro such that it lays neatly on itself then the loop formed is too loose and the skis/poles combo is free to kind of slide around and won't really stick to a good horizontal balance point. If I were to try to carry it vertically over my shoulder in this way, the skis slide down to where they will drag on the ground. You can overwrap the velcro to make the loop tighter of course but then you have an unsightly end of the strap hanging out there, waiting to snag on something and be pulled open giving you a less secure hold on your skis. This would not be the case if there were more velcro surface to play with. I'm thinking that if I had skate skis it would be worse since they don't have any camber and so make a tighter package and I think the unit would therefore fit even looser. It does work but a dollar's worth of additional velcro would have made it better. Also, would like to have the ability to wrap the velcro around the poles seperately from the skis to keep them from rubbing against each other. (Where have all the good engineers gone?) Not sure how this compares to other similar items. Some I researched seemed designed specifically for downhill since their operation seemed to depend on wrapping around a large binding which is not avaiable on XC skis. I guess I will recommend but not with any enthusiasm.

Comments about REI Ski Carrier:
This strap didn't even last the whole ski season. I bought one for a family member also and his wore out quickly as well. The stitching isn't sturdy enough and started to tear on both ends where the strap attaches to the velcro pieces. Unfortunate, since I LOVED it. :( It was very easy to attach, you can do it with the ski's standing up so you don't have to lay them in the snow. They make the skis a million times easier to carry. Maybe if you know someone handy, they can oversew it for you to make it sturdier. Or buy several and just replace them as they wear out.

Comments about REI Ski Carrier:
This is the best ski carrier that I have seen in 32 years of skiing. Finally, I can safely hold on to my skis while walking up & down stairs. No more balancing my skis in my ski poles. No more dropped skis and cut hands from the ski edges.
It takes a little practice to secure your skis & poles in the strap, so practice at home before you get to the slopes. You will have a better sense of the balance point of your skiis. The ends of the straps are "velcro-type material" so you can secure the it around your skis while wearing ski gloves.
I would have liked the ends of the strap to be a inch or two longer, but I was able make it work even after being tired from skiing all day.
For the price, I believe it is worth the cost. The other reviewer didn't offer much on the benefits and experience of using it. If the ends had some stretch, it would be easier to get the strap ends around your skis, but it is my opinion that would ultimately be a weakness in the durability of the strap. So, for the cost, go buy one! Stop dropping your skis!

Comments about REI Ski Carrier:
This seems to be a REI in-house import. REI did carry the Bowtie Ski Carrier for years and it offered a longer adjustable handle and a bit of elastic in the wrap strap along with a better design. This one looks like a knock-off of the Ski Lift carrier and it just doesn't do as good a job as the Bowtie does. So if you are looking for a great carrier that folks said they bought at REI, this is probably not it.
