I have been looking for a ski with these qualities for years. Test drove these in the W. Virginia backcountry last year and immediately bought a pair. Great grip for uphill slogs, good gliders on the flats, and these babys TURN! Then turn as well (or better in some conditions) than my tele-specific boards. The perfect ski for BC touring.
Best boot to drive 'em with is a mid weight plastic, like the Garmont Excursion or equivalent.

I've owned a pair of the 07/08 models for a year now, and have been incredibly pleased! These skis are absolutely perfect for my preferred style of nordic skiing: lots of untracked snow, lots of hills, plenty of touring and descending.

For someone who enjoys the endorphin rush of climbing as much as the adrenalin of the descent will love the light weight, camber and sticky (but not so sticky it interferes with glide) scales on the bottom...skins are only a last resort with these bad boys!

Going down is a rush too...they turn easy, float in the soft stuff, and respond well. Only downside is they aren't super great on the hard pack. They can get you down the mountain, but they tend to get rattley. Thank god for Colorado powder!

When simply touring, they track well and are light enough to get a great kick and glide going. They do fine in a groomed track, but really love it when you head off trail towards those sweet tree runs or hilly glades you've been eyeing.

In short, these skis are just the ticket for exploring the Rocky Mountain backcountry. Light enough for long tours, robust enough to get some sweet turns in your favorite, far-flung powder stash.

Got these skis today and skied with them in very deep, packed powder on the side of a very steep hill. They gave me a much improved feeling of control and I stayed on top of the snow where as I would have been sinking with my narrow Karhus. I know I'm going to love these in all conditions!

Very good float on soft snow/powder. No washout on hard pack and crusty snow (although I have washed out a couple of times). No wax base is good up to moderate incline, skins needed for steep ascents (which is to be expected, I think). Using with Voile 3-pin/cable bindings and Crispi leather boots.

These third-generation 10th Mountain skis are far better than the early models, and in fact better than any other all-around backcountry ski that I know of. Their only competition is the Karhu Guide, but the Guides are very slightly heavier, and a little too wide and slow on the tour. The 10th Mountains turn beautifully in all conditions (except breakable crust!), they climb like champs (almost never need skins), and still tour quite well. They are perfect for ski-backpacking, where you tour in a long distance the first day, then do a bunch of up-and-down telemarking way back in the wilderness. If you weigh 180 lb. like me, get the long skis (195 cm.) if you mostly backpack or tour, but get the shorter ones (185 cm., like I got) if you mostly day-trip with lots of telemarking and lots of climbing. My skiing ability (and pleasure!) doubled when I got these skis. Use them with lightweight cable bindings, like 30-year-old Swedish "ABC Victory" or "Jofa" bindings.

I just got these skis and have taken them out on some advanced trails through trees with nice open slopes for tele turns. I was super impressed with how a ski of this width glided and how easy it was to tour with. It was a joy on the way down. It floated over the choppy stuff on the trail and made turns in "cascade cement" feel easy. I have NNN bindings and the Alpina 2050 boot and feel this is a perfect set up in anything but hardpack or ice.

I'm very happy!!!
