Comments about Vasque Mantra Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
I walk for a living through city streets and uneven mountain terrain so I need a rugged and comfortable daily shoe. These shoes felt rugged, durable and comfortable in the store but the first day out in the field my knees, back and feet hurt. It felt like I was walking barefoot with every step. There was no shock absorption even with the custom insoles I wear.

Comments about Vasque Mantra Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
If you check your records, this is probably the 4th or 5th pair of Vasque shoes or boots that I have purchased. I used to brag and tell others how well these boots or shoes fit & feel. You didn't have to break them in, right out of the box you could take off hiking or hunting, no problems. When I read up on these Vasque shoes, I just assumed that these would be just as comfortable. But to my surprise, I was disappointed, they actually make my feet hurt, especially in the heels. It feels like my heels are stone bruised. I've tried everything short of giving them to the Goodwill, but I would feel badly if someone else had to experience the same discomfort as I have. Sorry Vasque, I feel you let me down with this pair of shoes.

I am on my 2nd pair of these, on both the stitching has come apart on the side where the toe gaurd goes down to the sole after about a year, both shoes seem to do this about the same time. Other than that they are great, very comfortable. I do a lot of walking. the soles show little wear.

Most comfortable pair of shoes I own. Wear them all the time. Seams on my first pair blew out in less than a year. Expected better, but I liked them so much I bought a second pair.

Comments about Vasque Mantra Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
These shoes look nice and feel nice when wearing them...but the quality left a lot to be desired. I've been buying shoes at REI for nearly 14 years now and this pair has to be one of the worst, least durable (yet one of the most expensive) that I've purchased. After less than six months, the laces are all frayed and the lining around both ankles is falling apart. I've purchased other pairs of shoes (Merrell, for example) which lasted over four times as long without as much wear. I doubt I'll be purchasing Vasque again in the future.

Durable, great support when the trail isn't level.
Waterproofing works very well.
Because of the Gortex waterproof feature they can get a lttle warm. Therefore I recommend replacing the insoles for odor control.

Comments about Vasque Mantra Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
Owned these for 2 years, and were a real let down. Works fine of flat terrain. But when I got into serious trails or rocky terrain it became real apparent the limitations of this shoe.
Got Lowa's instead, and can really tell the difference.
Pros:
The Vibram outer sole and traction are great. Also definitely waterproof and built well enough to take on a abuse without damage. Heel feels great when going uphill. Flexible, and easy on the feet on flat terrain.
Cons:
The main problem of the shoe is lack of cushion at the balls of the feet. This became a real problem when coming downhill. If you remove the insole, you'll realize the padding is not existent there. Also this shoe seems to lack
a shank that extends past the mid foot section. Hiking on rocky areas causes a lot of rock protrusion into the shoe. Ankle support is ok.
This could just be my foot; there's a lack of mid foot hold. So no matter how I adjust the laces, my feet seems to slide forward when coming downhill.

Comments about Vasque Mantra Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
I'm normally a Vasque fan, having had a great experience with the Velocity trail runners. I had needed something more supportive for light hiking while traveling and ordered the Vasque Mantra's. However, I found the shoe to be very uncomfortable, with very little cushioning under the forefoot.
I agree with other reviwers mentioning discomfort and others who've mentioned blister issues. I think Vasque over did the very supportive vibram outsole but ended-up sacrificing some of the overall comfort of the shoe.
Bottom line, I would recommend you consider something else, if comfort is a top-priority.

Excellent trail shoe, nice narrow fit with a reinforced toe with room in front.
And, they look cool!

Comments about Vasque Mantra Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
I realized in the store that these things were not very comfortable. They had tight spots and fit very oddly. I decided to look at the insoles and they were REVERSED! This shoe was still a little small even after reversing the insoles so I asked for the next size up (I have a wide foot). I slipped them on, and, again, these things felt terrible. I looked at the insoles, and they were reversed in this pair also. Could this be an assembly error at the factory? Don't know, but once lined out, they feel great!
