Comments about Merrell Moab Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:

These shoes were extremely light and comfortable and the Gore-Tex worked perfectly, keeping my feet cool and dry. Based upon just that, they deserve a 5 star rating.

However, I gave them a 1 star rating because they barely lasted a single summer of light hiking.

Specifically, I had the same problem described by two other reviewers: the shoe separated from the sole [starting from the toe and going about half of the way back.] Also, the shoes looked terrible because the black material by the toe flaked off easily and the material under it is white. [the picture can better explain it than I can.]

Comments about Merrell Moab Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:

I work as a golf course superintendent and my feet are in and out of water all day. These shoes started breaking down about one month after I got them. I have tried many different brands from Garmont to North Face and these are by far the worst. If all you do is walk laps around the mall then these are for you.

Comments about Merrell Moab Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:

Originally purchased to wear when I took the dog to the park on rainy days. Worked great at first but after a few months the shoe started to separate from the sole near both sides of the toe and material flaked off around the crease near big toe. Really dissappointed in these. I have many merrell shoes and these are the first that didn't hold up.

Comments about Merrell Moab Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:

I've had a pair of these for about two weeks now and have put them completely through the ringer. Last week I wore them for four days on the Appalachian Trail in the Smokies carrying a 40 Lb pack through foot high snow and knee deep water. Had I been wearing gaiters during the snow portions my feet would have stayed completely dry, even in slush. They are extremely comfortable and with minimal break-in before the trip they gave me no blisters or hot spots. In the cold they worked wonderfully with standard Smartwool hiking socks. I hope they last a long time because I love them! Thank you Merrell!

Comments about Merrell Moab Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:

I bought these shoes for the Colorado Trail. After testing them out and breaking them in I was pretty confident that they would do the job. And they did. After 500 miles, the shoes are still in one piece. They are comfortable. The soles are aggressive enough but the shoes remain lightweight. However, the Gore-Tex liner began to fail 100 miles into my trip with the onset of the first good rain. Basically the only reason I bought these shoes was because I was looking for something lightweight and waterproof. I could have gone lighter and had a pair of shoes that would have dried much faster when wet. Overall, I wouldn't recommend these shoes.

Comments about Merrell Moab Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:

For what these shoes are meant for they are great! I've used them on 20 to 30+ day hikes and they have held up great...walked through creeks with my foot nearly submerged more than half way up the shoe and stayed completely dry. I've never had blisters and sometimes run trails with these shoes. Done a few overnight and 3-4 night trips in the Sierras in them and they've worked great! Considering the price and fact that they are waterproof and lightweight...I'd buy them again.

Comments about Merrell Moab Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:

I've been wearing these for over a week now. They are comfortable and had no break in time. I know there are some bad reviews, but if you compare shoe reviews you will probably notice there is no consistent 4 or 5 star rating. I attribute this to the fact that everyone's foot is different, as well as the users foot width, their height, and their weight are all contributing factors to the feel of the shoe. I am 5'8", 150 lbs, and have very flat feet. I did start to have a little bit of pain in my feet after 7 hours of being on my feet. This could have obviously just been from being up so long, but I may need to eventually buy a small amount of arch support. It rained for 2 days straight here and I never had any leaks. So far, great shoe. I would get another pair if I had the money.

Comments about Merrell Moab Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:

At the store the shoes were very comfortable without any noticeable seams that would cause discomfort/blisters while hiking.

When doing some day hike trails in sunny conditions they perform admirably. They provide good traction and feel comfortable without breaking in. Under these ideal conditions (no water) the shoe is perfect.

However, once you introduce water, the sole will slowly seperate itself from the shoe starting at area by the side of the toe. I have gotten 2 pairs of these shoes (the Moab ventilator and these Gore-tex ones), and they exhibit the SAME flaw. Water WILL wear away the glue...unless I got two defective products from TWO different REI locations.

I am going to return these. I need something that lives up to its name...it says it is waterproof, and it is true...the water does not get in. However, it wears away the glue on the outside and the sole will seperate.

Also, the rubber is really grippy but soft. After 3-4 times of light hiking, you will notice significant wear.
