Comments about Salomon XA Comp 3 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
Had and wore this shoe for about a week, cause that was about as much as I could stand to be in them. The Quick Pull Lacing system along with the total lack of any cushioning on the tongue made for consistent and extremely annoying pressure points on the top of my foot. The top of my foot is rather high but I have only encountered the problem in Salomon footwear. The insoles were comfortable but the Gore Tex fabric proved to be very hot and not allowing much breathability. I have had multiple fit and quality problems with Salomon footwear in the past and have had to replace or return them to the store, but on the bright side I did learn my lesson and found another shoe that performs better.
Service and delivery comments:
The Perimeter REI store is the best. Informed and totally friendly staff, and a very gracious return policy. Thanks to them for their help with this products return.

Comments about Salomon XA Comp 3 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I really wanted to like Solomon shoes, but I think I'm going to have to switch to another brand after owning three pairs. On the positive side, they are a fairly rugged shoe, they are comfortable and they handle lots of different terrain types. They have also held up for me over very long distances without giving my feet friction blisters or causing me foot or ankle pain. I much prefer to go out in trail running shoes than boots, so I was really attracted to the design and feel of the Solomon shoe.
The first pair I owned were gortex comp 3's. For a while they were great, but the laces deteriorated quickly after about 200 miles in the woods. One finally snapped while I was hiking, fortunately it was a short walk and I didn't lose much. All three pairs that I've had have suffered from problems with the laces fraying. The pair that I currently wear has a new problem where the clasp does not grip the laces properly and the shoe loosens over time... very annoying! Fortunately, REI offers free replacements, but obviously they are not as integrated into the shoe as the originals.
The gortex was great and water tight. They are VERY hot in the summer time, though. It became a regular practice for me to dip the shoes into water or run some of my camelback onto the tops of the shoe to cool off my feet. (This worked pretty well as a comfort mechanism, but is not soemthing that I really want to be doing very often on a hike.) They worked great in late fall and early spring, since they keep your feet dry and the weather keeps your feet relatively cool. As good as the gortex keeps water out, it also keeps moister in. I've done a couple of extended hikes in these and my feet suffered as a result. You should keep a few extra pairs of socks on hand and let your feet air out every couple of hours. Non gortex versions manage to reduce the heat problem somewhat, although not completely.
Finally, I had similar issues as other reviewers with extreme pressure points along the top of my foot with some models of the solomon shoe. If you find this problem, I recommend trying on a few pairs and different models. The pressure point is very uncomfortable, so you don't want to end up with a pair that has this problem. I was always able to find a pair that felt comfortable before buying, so I don't consider this a big deal.
Bottom Line: Solomon needs to rethink the design of the laces. The gortex models are hot, but manageable. Good shoe design and comfort are key strong points for these shoes, but until Solomon fixes the laces I think I'm going to try something else the next time I buy.

Comments about Salomon XA Comp 3 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I have bought this shoe for the past three years because it is extremely comfortable, lightweight, and is waterproof. I am also a woman and find that the men's size shoe fits my foot well and comes in better colors. Things I don't like: the three pairs I have owned have ALL had the laces break within 6 months or less, and the outside stitching of the shoe near my pinky toes always comes unstitched and I have big holes - the GTX layer doesn't break, just the outside cloth. Comments about Salomon XA Comp 3 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I took these babies canoeing in Canada for two weeks. They withstood constant moisture/humidity, tough everyday use and rugged terrain. I used them amphibiously on my journey and found traction in water and on land to be superb. As I precariously balanced a canoe on my head during portages, they made quick work of mossy rocks. Upon returning home, I soaked them in Simple Green to remove trail moil and continue to use them everyday. While I did have to replace the laces once after this adventure, I am in love with the rugged effectiveness and comfortable fit of this product.

Comments about Salomon XA Comp 3 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
This is a great all around shoe. My runs from my house include streets, nature trails, sand and water. I often run to the beach and do a few miles right along the water. Before this shoe I would come home with wet socks and sand on my toes. With this shoe I no longer have that problem. These are so comfortable and never look dirty. They are now the only shoe I take on vacations. They slip on easy, great for on/off road runs, walking/shopping, hiking, etc. After a few vacations with my wife caught in the wrong type of shoe, she now has a pair. Good support and cushion for large framed runners with wide feet.

I have worked in the landscaping, golf business for years and have many different pairs of outdoor/waterproof shoes. These by far are the best ever. Tight waterproof seal as well as comfortable, they are well worth the price of admission.

Comments about Salomon XA Comp 3 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
Great shoe for muddy trails, even snow. OK on short paved sections unlike other trail shoes I've used. My feet are always dry, although I have not tried them in warmer conditions where sweat may be a factor.
I wear them a lot, as the zip laces make them easy to slip on for casual use.
I also coach soccer and nothing is better for those rainy games and practices.

Comments about Salomon XA Comp 3 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
These shoes are my second pair. The first pair I wore almost everyday for a year. They are waterproof and breathable with excellent traction. They are also very comfortable. The laces are great except they did break on me. Since I had the shoes for so long I decided to buy new ones instead of replacing the laces.

Comments about Salomon XA Comp 3 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
dunno about all these bad reviews...i had to put in my experience with these.
primarily: the 'Superfeet' insoles are essential to getting the most of this shoe.
i spend long days on my feet and these babies keep me in the game with less fatigue than i deserve.
i just bought my second pair to anticipate the holes i'm wearing in the soles of the first pair.
i use them primarily for my work, which demands a lot of activity in a wide variety of settings.
outdoor, hiking, running/hustling around racing and sporting venues all day working in the production biz as a freelancer.
i've worn them recreationally in the outdoors as well as on many shoot days, and i'd hang my life on these shoes.
AAA+++
cheers.

Comments about Salomon XA Comp 3 GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
These are great shoes for someone looking for light trail shoes like myself. The tread is very aggressive on the bottom, leaving no problems with traction.
I have an awkward foot size, making fit very important, so I went with a 10.5 after trying the 11. They felt great, no slippage or heel rub. Even tried the Solomon Ultras, but the waterproof membrane caused my foot to slip.
Another point I love about the shoes is the toe-cup thing. There is this plastic box/cup around the toe for protection and it works great.
They weigh about the same as normal shoes, maybe a touch more.
