I lead a team of communications and tower repair technicians and we are often required to climb and work on metal towers in below zero temperatures and in high winds. These gloves can take just bout anything. With excellent grip and abrasion resistance I am hooked. These are the best I have ever used.

A great bargain for those of us who have cold hands, and dislike mittens.
When I purchased mine to use when skiing, I also bought a pair of heatpocket liners. But these are so warm that I've yet to use them.
Every other glove I've tried that has the qualities of these costs considerably more.
Heartily recommended.

Comments about REI Switchback Gloves - Men's:
These are amazing gloves for the price. I used them on a couple high altitude climbs in Peru and Ecuador this past summer (18,000+ ft) and they performed beautifully. Im sure they aren't quite as rugged and ridiculously warm as some of the more expensive brand gloves but my hands were nice and warm (and i normally have trouble keeping my hands warm) with plently of dexterity for mountaineering. But if you are going somewhere that is just going to be insanely cold, get mittens. Nothing is warmer than mittens, but once again, these gloves are an amazing value!

I ride my Harley all year in all seasons and weather conditions. This glove provides excellent protection when the temps get below 0 with the wind chill. My hands stayed warm to -10 degrees with the wind chill.

I ususally don't bother posting reviews, but this one is so good. I learend that you got what you paid for. I've bought gloves from EMS, Columbia and other companies, raninging from $20 to $40, but they are ALL NOT good for winter hiking, I do some serious winter mountaineering, which means hiking in the severe condition (snow storm, whiteout) and I need my hands warm (no leaking...), I bought this pair after I returned a EMS gloves and brought it with me to Mt. Washington yesterday, it was whiteout and fresh snow powder, my hands are warm all the time. The benefit of staying warm is you can take off your gloves to do things for a short time without getting cold. I highly recommend this gloves!!! I am not kidding and in no means relate to REI, this is an awesome pair of gloves!!!!!
Thanks,
Alex

I bought these gloves for a 7 day Mammoth winter expedition class. Activities that we did were cross country skiing and back country camping. The straps that you pull to loosen and tighten the gloves around your arm broke on me. I did not really pull them that hard at all just to tighten them. A more durable elastic material is needed.

Overall these gloves are great. the only thing that you really should know is that if you are planning on taking the liner out frequently there is an inner liner (not the removable one but a liner for the shell) that gets pulled out as well and getting that back in place when your hands are cold is a crazy maker for sure. Almost returned them until I figured out a good system for getting the liner out.

Comments about REI Switchback Gloves - Men's:
Bought these gloves on a whim after my current BD's palm ripped out. Needed something for functional usage with removable liners and "gauntlet" style cuffs.
This glove fits the bill on all counts; I've used this glove in the teens and the twenties and I've had to take the liners out because my hands were too warm. They seem to breath well; my only complaint is compared to the gloves I replaced they are a little more bulky. But they are excellent gloves. A+

I thought the fleece liner in these gloves would make them very warm and toasty. Not so. My hands get cold in them at any temperature below freezing.

Comments about REI Switchback Gloves - Men's:
Having lost my right glove somewhere between the parking lot and the top of the gondola last month, I went into the Reno REI to get a replacement. Unfortunately, while many other gloves were available in my size, the Switchback just would not do. As a sign of how much I like this glove, I spent the next five days skiing with a fleece glove over my right hand, when the temperature (without windchill) was barely above zero in the mornings.
Fit, functionality and performance are all spot-on. The removable liner is nice if you're setting up camp or carrying around skis at the end of the day. The long cuffs keep out snow from your sleeves well. For how warm these gloves are, the dexterity is pretty impressive - much better than a lesser glove I borrowed from a friend on the last day of my trip. The only negative that I would report, after about 60 days of hard skiing, is that some of the coating over part of the glove had begun to peel off. (Where the pole strap rubs the glove I think.) This didn't seem to affect performance however. (While I'm sure I could have taken the gloves in for replacement, given how much useage I got, I did not feel right doing that.)
