Comments about REI Minimalist Gloves - Men's:
These gloves work very well if you understand they are windshells for your hands. They are not very waterproof or very warm, but neither is a windshell. In cool/cold but dry conditions they work great. I pull them on over regular bike gloves rather than use cold weather gloves. Also cool weather hiking, warm day snowshoeing, cross country skiing and downhill as long as you stay upright. They take up almost no room in your pack, so they are easy to take along in changeable conditions.

Comments about REI Minimalist Gloves - Men's:
I bought a prior version of this glove for 40-50 degree treking. On the first day of use they leaked at the seams resulting in wet and cold hands. Thinking I might have a defective pair I returned them requesting a replacement. I tested the new ones at home under running water with the same results. On dry days they do provide wind protection. Another defect is the liner which is sort of loose inside making it particularly difficult to put on especially if your hands are damp.

Comments about REI Minimalist Gloves - Men's:
These gloves have done very well under all sorts of conditions. I have a prior version, and a freind bought the updated verison after trying mine (the only differences we could see were cosmetic). I use them for cool/ cold weather backcountry use, photography, and light outdoor work, and they have been very durable, dependable, waterproof, and they have the stickiest palms I have ever seen. I have used them while using a machete/ bush axe to clear survery lines. I am also a semi-pro photographer and use these gloves for handling camera equipment in the cold. Handling the smaller camera controls gets difficult with a liner inside, but is only due to the added bulk. The dexterity is the best I have experienced in gloves for outdoor use. I do add a liner when it gets really cold and/ or windy, but they are pretty warm on their own especailly in highly aerobic conditions. I would definitely consider these for a shell/ minimalist glove for backcountry/ genreral use glove.

Comments about REI Minimalist Gloves - Men's:
This is a nice glove for cool, but not cold weather. It is great for blocking wind and seems to breathe ok, but it is defintely not water-proof, as advertised. I would recommend this glove for running in cool weather or cross-country skiing in temps above freezing.

Comments about REI Minimalist Gloves - Men's:
Good gloves but not at all waterproof. If snow is dry, your hands will stay dry but if there is any moisture you will get wet.

Comments about REI Minimalist Gloves - Men's:
My hands sweat a lot, to the point that I soak threw most gloves from the inside out at which point they freeze rendering my hands useless ice blocks. I have tried dozens of gloves and only the Minimalist has the light weight, breathability and fast drying comfort to keep my hands comfy. I wear light weight glove liners on the really cold days. A little more cuff would help keep snow from building up around the wrist but somehow the snow doesn’t leak in. These gloves aren’t for everybody but if you ski moguls, earn your turns, telemark, cross county ski, mountain bike on icy trails, shovel your own driveway, bust trail, climb stuff in bad weather above tree line at a quick pace all the while working up a nice warm glow these gloves might be for you.
