Comments about Vasque Mantra Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
I travel for work and was looking for a pair of stable/sturdy shoes that would be suitable for lots of walking/hiking whether it be on the asphalt jungle or dirt trails. Right out of the box I found these shoes to be the answer. They are extremely comfortable and provide excellent support.
My shoes have walked/hiked the hills of San Francisco, the streets of New York, and have been on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Even after logging several miles a day I never had sore or tired feet. I can wear them all day, every day, with complete comfort. They are designed so well that I swear they practically walk themselves! The soles provide excellent traction on all terrain, with the exception of the stone sidewalks in Old Jerusalem that were quite slick when they got wet.
Concerning the fit -- I have feet that have always been very difficult to fit (narrow heels), but these fit perfectly from the start without needing any break-in or alterations.
I have been extremely pleased with this product.

Comments about Vasque Mantra Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
I wear these shoes almost every day. I am a zookeeper and I am outside 8 hours a day in all weather conditions. Our animal habitats are naturalistic with all kinds of terrains, slopes and ground coverings. We go through shoes like nobody's business. I hose, and am near, or in water for a good part of the day so the Gore-Tex was very important. I have stepped in pools up to the top and it hasn't leaked until I went over the tongue and down my sock. I have gotten them wet, covered in dirt, grime, blood, bleach and who knows what else and they are still the best pair I have ever owned and I have been a keeper for almost 10 years. I love the more narrow fit and low top since i get a wicked farmer's tan in the summer ;) The only con i found was that for the first month or so they were slippery on slicker surfaces such as tile and concrete at an incline. With some wear on the bottom this faded away.

I have worn these in rain, mud, & dry desert. I have worn them scrambling, following trails up & down hills, as well as flat. They can't be beat. I think I will buy another pair now, to save for when they wear out.

Comments about Vasque Mantra Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
I needed a trail shoe to prepare for and use for a rim-to-rim hike through the Grand Canyon. [...] It's very lightweight and moves well. My background is competitive running so I knew I wouldn't be happy with a heavy, sluggish shoe. This is perfect! Plus, it's waterproof in case of rain!

Comments about Vasque Mantra Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
I wore these daily all winter long and had no complaints. No break-in needed. Kept my feet completely dry. I still get them out (it's summer now) and wear them when I think my feet would like a break from my summer walking/hiking shoes, and they seem to be great for warm weather, too. Still no complaints. They also look great when I want to wear a comfortable lace-up shoe, but don't actually want the sports-shoe look of my summer trail runners. Plus, after a whole season of daily walks in nasty weather they still look almost new.

Comments about Vasque Mantra Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
I spent two hours in REI trying on every waterproof hiker they carry (women's and then some men's). My foot measures a 'C' width so it is difficult to find a women's Medium width that is comfortable. [...] the brand in general runs narrow, and this model the narrowest of all. So I didn't try it on and bought a men's Merrill instead, which I then returned after wearing around my house. Just for grins I tried on this boot and it wasn't narrow in the least! They fit perfectly, true to size, and I wore them for two days straight with no problems with my orthotics (high arches) in them. So if you have a wider foot don't ignore this one on the rack - it could be just the right boot. I haven't tried them hiking yet, I'm taking them to England and Ireland in a few weeks.

I love these shoes! For whatever reason, Merrill and Keen just aren't comfy for me, but I am about to buy my third pair of Vasque. I hike 2+ hours at least four days a week. I wear them 6+ hours a day and even when it isn't raining they get wet due to my work. I get a solid 6 months from them before the Vibram sole starts to lose it's awesome grip. One of the sales people at REI implied that the shoes should be good for a year and perhaps I should return them, but I am hard on them and feel they hold up sufficiently. If you are a recreational hiker I think they will last years, but if you use them almost daily like I do, expect a good 6 months before you wonder if it is time to replace them just like you would a good running shoe.

Comments about Vasque Mantra Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
I had great expectations of this shoe when I purchased them. They are extremely comfortable (however run about a 1/2 size small). I used them on a recent 23 mile day hike over mixed and often rocky terrain. My feet were very happy in these boots. However, within the first 3 miles I noticed significant "chipping" of the leather from the toe area of the shoe. For this reason alone I will be returning this shoe to REI for another Vasque model with a toe protecter.
I currently own the older version of the Vasque Breeze which is an amazingly comfortable and durable boot. It has a rubber toe protector in the front so I've never had an issue with extreme wear. Unfortunately Vasque redesigned the Breeze and took this feature away. I'm hoping the new Briza boot will work for me as this boot has the toe protection feature.

Comments about Vasque Mantra Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
I walk an hour a day 2 1/2 to 3 miles on pavement or local hiking trails. I've had the shoes a little over a month and already the cushioning isn't as good. They are durable and handle rain and mud exceptionally well. My BIGGEST GRIPE is the darned LACES...even with double tying them or with tying AND adding a knot they STILL loosen up after walking, more now since they're "broken in." If you only "single" tie the shoes they will 100% of the time come unlaced. So you'll ALWAYS have to add extra knots or double tie and STILL have to retie them again after a mile or so. This is ANNOYING and POOR DESIGN! Also, Now that they're broken in, my heels slip a bit and my Achilles tendinitis is a bit worse than when I first bought shoes as a result. STILL, these shoes felt the MOST COMFORTABLE of all the ones I tried overall at REI....They allow lots of wiggle room for the toes, look sharp and LOVE the waterproofness. Vasque really needs to improve on CUSHIONING though...that won't disappear after 1 month! Still, they are the best shoes that I could find in a "non-white" color walking shoe~
