    I use this jacket for almost everything (provided it's cold enough outside)--hiking, to and from work, snowshoeing in extreme cold, travel, etc. For 700-fill down, I don't think there's a better value out there. It's lightweight, packable, fits well under a rain shell, and the removeable hood is a feature I never thought I would use as much as I do. The length of the jacket is slightly below the waist and dips down in the back--PERFECT. The only slight problem I've found so far is that the front 2-way zipper is difficult to get started, especially with gloves on. At least one more pocket would be nice. And know that this jacket is made to be light, packable, and versatile. As such, the shell fabric is pretty thin. Overall, a fantastic product.

    This jacket will not fail when it comes to keeping you warm. I was recently in wisconsin riding a snowmobile and I could not feel the cold. However, if you find yourself pulling a snowmobile off a hill because it's stuck, prepare to sweat.. This jacket is extra warm.
    As far as the sleeve issue. I'm 6'2" so the sleeves on anything tend to be a bit short. Overall, I love this jacket. There's not a warmer one out there that's as light or soft as this one!

    I live in Alaska and needed a good coat to wear to work as well as when standing around outside. I looked at other brands that were really nice, lots more money, and were a little more bulky then what I wanted. For around town it has been great when going from car to store and getting in a very cold car. Yesterday I wore it all buttoned up while walking across a frozen, very windy lake and it was perfect. The removable hood makes it very versatile and I could cover half my face with the soft fleece. After I hit the woods and started snowshoeing I had to remove it as it was way too warm but on stops I put it back on. It packs down very well. The outer fabric is pretty lite though and not sure how it would hold up to bushwacking but its not made for that and I think you would over heat if doing alot of aroebic activity. For the money a great jacket. The zippers on the pocket do snag easily and are not real glove friendly. I am going to add some pulls on them.

      Moving TO Wisco In Jan. This is thejacket I bought to save me. I will be teaching all kinds of outdoor winter sports and also hiking alot. This is warmer than my R4. Great Price compared with similar jackets, actually I haven't found one this warm that was not poofy or too big.

          Got this for my boyfriend. He can wear only long sleeve t shirt under this jacket and be warm enough for 30 degree chicago weather with wind also.
          Design is great with hood and zip-up neck. Great price point compared to other similar jacket.

          He loves it. Says the jacket is so light that you don't feel like you're wearing a coat.

            I got this jacket for my husband who is constantly cold. I gave him a spiewak 3 in 1 that he's been wearing for years but even with two layers (one being down) he always complained about it not being warm enough. This new jacket by REI is so warm that I actually saw him the other day with the jacket wide open (he never did that with the other one). Not only that, the jacket looks so stylish! Great jacket REI!!
