The Marmot Exum jacket holds up to the rigors of mountaineering by offering crocodile-hide tough and extremely lightweight weather protection.

Gore-Tex® Pro Shell 3-layer fabric is tough, extremely breathable and durably waterproof and windproof
Gore Micro Grid backer is a thin, low-denier, low-density woven fabric that allows the shell to slide easily over mid layers
Reduced seam quantity and thickness saves weight and offers excellent abrasion- and snag-resistance and great breathability
Fabric reinforcements are placed in abrasion-prone areas
Two-way adjustable front zipper features both inner and outer storm flaps
Hood's side and back volume adjustments and wired brim tailor the fit for coverage that keeps your head dry, yet allows good peripheral vision
Collar zips up to provide face coverage in stormy conditions; a chin guard is soft against skin
Pit zippers allow adjustable ventilation
Drawcord hem and adjustable rip-and-stick cuffs hold in warmth

Used my Marmot Exum on a 28 mile hike across the Pinnell Mountain Trail just north of Fairbanks, Alaska. Through 70 degree sunshine and 34 degree/30 mile an hour wind and hail, the Exum was perfect. The front zipper cover allowed me to unzip the front for maximum ventilation while still keeping out precipitation and the arm zips helped with climate management as well. I was extremely pleased with this jacket in all aspects of performance.

i plan to use this jacket for bad winter conditions & high winds, snow, and rain. so far, i have only used it during a windy, all-day rain storm.

first, regarding sizing, the sleeves are a little long for regular use, but i think the extra inch or two will be a big help for winter use. the length of the jacket is not particularly long - more than waist length, but not mid-thigh.

details i like: great fabric that hangs well, is extremely light, keeps the rain out (really keeps it out), stops the wind, and breathes well. played soccer in a storm today and never felt clammy inside. very nice lining;

pit zips that are long and easy to use;

pockets that are conveniently located on the front;

a fabulous hood - easy to adjust, and with enough adjustability so it stayed on in the wind, yet it was easy for me to look around. has a bendable wire in the bill for really harsh conditions;

front zipper has flaps under and over. nothing is getting through;

no elastic wrists, just velcro;

pretty simple design. less to break or fail.

so far, it is exactly what i wanted and expected. great hard shell.

This is a climbing jacket. Designed for Mt Rainier guides.

Helmet compatible hood is fantastic, and it even has a wire rim in the hood to protect your field of view.

The price is high, yes, but compared to similar Jackets with the Gore Pro Shell membrane, it is actually very affordable.

Bottom line: great for climbers in search of a lightweight storm shell.

This jacket is very lightweight and is great as a backpacking rain jacket. It also works well as an outer waterproof/windproof layer when skiing. The only downside is the very high cost.

I've only had this jacket since thanksgiving, and i haven't be able to take it in any extreme weather yet, but it has saved my skin multiple times since then, when i've been caught in heavy rain going to class when it is in the upper 30s to the 80s. Not a drop of rain has gotten through, and there hasn't been any sweaty, clammy feeling. I could not be more pleased with this jacket. For the price, this is as good a deal as anyone can get for a Pro-Shell jacket. Can't wait to use it in some harsher weather in Colorado in a few days, and i'm not afraid of being caught out in the rain with the Exum becasue I have no doubt it will keep me dry.

The fit is perfect for layering, I'm average build at 5'9" about 165 lbs, and the medium fits great for wear by itself, and has ample room for a fleece or even a down jacket underneath. the sleeves are longer than normal, to prevent exposure when climbing. Long enough cut at the bottom to prevent exposure of your stomach as well. The Exum is very well made, and is a top of the line product that is fairly basic in design, but is done right. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a do-it-all shell.
