Comments about REI Zip Travel Daypack:
My husband and I bought this bag as a day-tripper for excursions outside of Rome, our "home base" on a recent 10-day Italian vacay.
We loved the way the pack self-stores into itself, and that it takes up so little space/weight in a suitcase. It is SUPER light! We were able to fit MOST of what we wanted to take with us (hence the contradictory good capacity/small capacity rating); for a compact day bag, it's GREAT; for a two-person carryall with camera, it was probably a little too small for our needs, which is our fault, not the bag's.
Only want: I would have loved a heavy-duty rain cover for when we got drenched in Pompeii/Naples; we ended up wearing our rain gear OVER the bag to protect our camera, etc.
Overall, for what this bag is and INTENDED to be used for, I love it, and am considering buying another so that my hubby and I each have one of our own!

Awesome little daypack thats not so little! i used mine when i was traveling in Italy and Austria it held my rain shell a notebook and personal items i didn't want in my pockets, and pretty much whatever else i wanted it to. I even used it to carry a days worth of clothes and goodies to Slovakia for 2 days. definitely one of the most useful things i decided to take with me. I use it all time now im back state side for over night jaunts and when i go out and about to the city. Overall BA little pack!

Comments about REI Zip Travel Daypack:
I purchased this daypack for a minimalist 2-week European vacation with my wife. This pack squishes up very small when not being used so it is easy to bring along. During our ventures out from our accommodations we would fit two lightweight rain jackets, a fairly large guidebook, a digital camera, a mini DV video camera, and snacks. The side pocket was large enough to also hold a full-size Nalgene bottle.
The only drawback is that after wearing the pack for hours at a time the lack of padding in the skinny shoulder straps became slightly apparent. Not a big deal, just an observation.
This pack was a great investment for lightweight travel.

I bought this for a Backpacking trip through the British Isles. I would stuff it in my pack when I traveled, and when I got to a hostel, I would use this as a daypack to check out the city.
It works like a charm! Extremely useful, and packs up really small and light. I'm already planning my next backpacking trip, and this will definitely be making the trip along with me.

Comments about REI Zip Travel Daypack:
Was looking for a pack to replace a waste pack I've owned for awhile.
The REI day pack is almost exactly as described. Packs well, love the top loading, side pockets and top zipper pocket. Love the fact that it can pack into itself, even if I'm never really going to use that feature.
Didn't love the shoulder straps that are really flimsy. But I guess for a pack this size you don't need anything more.
Bag is really thin but seems well made.
Its not for me but I would still recommend the bag.
I'm going to pick up the Osprey Daylite Accessory Pack

Comments about REI Zip Travel Daypack:
I've got the Flash 18 daypack, ingenious in its dual usage as a stuff sack when turned inside out. My wife has this pack. The build and materials are nearly identical to the Flash 18 except this pack has a lid with top pocket and two external mesh pockets. The pack folds into the lid, making it perfect for traveling. Tossed into your luggage it takes up little space. This is a HANDY day bag...I prefer hers to mine due to the additional external storage and the lid for keeping items in the main compartment dry during steady rain.
Add a hydration pocket like the Flash 18 and a few COLOR OPTIONS and this would be the ideal lightweight travel pack. BLACK & (backorder BLUE)? That's exceedingly boring REI. You discontinued the one decent color you had. For obvious reasons I did not check the box "Easy to Identify"
I'll pay an extra $10.00 for a custom-build in red, with a hydration pocket. Please let me know when it's ready for pickup.

Comments about REI Zip Travel Daypack:
I use this pack mainly for day hikes and as a "summit pack". I like how it folds into itself, very easy to throw into by normal pack. I recommend this as a day pack, as well as a travel pack!

Comments about REI Zip Travel Daypack:
We bought this as a carry on for a trip to Europe with two young kids. It was perfect for stashing all their toys for the flight. Once we got there, this served us well for outings with their jackets, snacks, etc. We've also used it multiple times for our local trips to the beach, zoo, etc. Excellent pack. The only improvement would be to make a better water bottle pocket. As other reviewers pointed out, water bottles fall out of the outside pockets easily.

Comments about REI Zip Travel Daypack:
This is a really versatile, small, light pack. I just lost mine but am thinking about getting another (the flash looks good also). This was my main pack for all these things:
Flight carry-on
Day pack while traveling
Stuff sack/small excursion pack on a 4 day hike
When heading out in the city for the day
Ski pack
Like others pointed out, water bottles fall out when you lean over. If you have a lot of small objects they can be hard to find at the bottom of the pack.
Great pack overall and I highly recommend having a pack to fill this role.
