Comments about REI Vagabond Travel Pack:
This is a funky and unique bag. It seems to be a hybrid between a daypack and travel luggage. The unique frontal access to the main compartment is fantastic. I found this bag a perfect match to the Eagle Creek 18" Pack-It folders. Also, the dimensions are *very* close to the minimum carry-on requirements of most airlines. If you loathe checking in luggage, this can be a great weekend pack that can be considered carry-on luggage for short travels.
The backpack frame and harness is of great quality. The storage compartment on the torso strap is a nice touch.
I love how low-key the bag looks.
Bonus points for a great top-compartment with nice organization options, and zippers that accept locks.
I haven't seen a backpack/bag quite like this one...so kudos to REI for producing something truly unique to the market.
The suggestions I have is:
* more color choices. Personally I would prefer all-black instead of two-tone grey/black. Although the grey/black is a nice color as well.
* possibly slimming the dimension of 23" to 22" to truly adhere to current minimum carry-on luggage dimensions (although this is nit-picking...the bag technically falls within the spread of airline requirements....so check and make sure what your airline accepts as carry-on luggage).

Comments about REI Vagabond Travel Pack:
I bought 3 of these packs for my family. We used them for 13 day trip to Italy. We did not use them as hiking packs, we used them for easy travling from point A to point B. We did not have a car and we did a lot of walking. They were easy to take on the plane with out checking them. They barely fit so do a test run at airport before boarding. I had a take a jacket out and carry it. When we had travel days, (walking, train, boat) we were mobile and did not have to worry about carrying or rolling bags. The bags were a little small, but we packed light and did laundry 2 times. Fr our trip they were perfect.

Comments about REI Vagabond Travel Pack:
This is a very well thought out travel backpack-- perfect for backpacking in Europe--and a great improvement on the old Vagabond. I love how the backpack unzips like a suitcase when laid flat, and how easy it is to pack your jeans, t-shirts, toiletries in it. There are several handy side and top pockets and a separate inner compartment for your dirty underwear. Completely recommended.

Comments about REI Vagabond Travel Pack:
I bought this pack before moving to Stockholm. I was looking for the perfect all around backpack. The search was over when I found the Vagabond.
This was my criteria:
Meets carry-on baggage restrictions(the Vagabond is VERY close); Fit a 17” laptop + books + whatever extra; Front loading, large main compartment; Collapsible straps/waste belt to avoid damage when stored; Lightweight, high quality for many years of use
This pack can also be carried in a variety of different configurations. It has a top handle, side handle, and the ability to attach a shoulder strap (duffle bag).
A great companion for everyday use or for an extend trip around Europe.

Comments about REI Vagabond Travel Pack:
I absolutely love this bag! I had the Osprey 46 but hated the hip strap and was having such a difficult time finding a bag that was small enough to carry onto discount airlines (RyanAir, Jet2, etc.) but large enough to fit everything I would need traveling around for a few weeks. This bag fit the bill and I love it!

Comments about REI Vagabond Travel Pack:
I got this because I walk to work, the gym, the grocery store, etc. and wanted a bag that would hold everything I would want to put in it: lunch, gym stuff (shoes, clothes, combination lock, music player, notebook), textbooks, books for work, umbrella, keys, wallet . . . that might be it. This does a great job! I love the shape! It isn't too bulky and fits in a half-sized gym locker (!).
The bag seems to be very high quality. The straps, zippers and fabric seem great.
What is not so great about it. . . . Okay, I thought of something. It would be cool if it were available in white/black as well as the gray/orange.

Comments about REI Vagabond Travel Pack:
I went on my first pack packing trip with my husband around Europe for three weeks. He carried the main pack but this was my pack. It was easy to carry even for a small person. My husband thought he looked pretty awesome in his pack but I thought I looked pretty cute in mine!

Comments about REI Vagabond Travel Pack:
I had a backpack for daily use but I maxed out my space with just a pair of shoes. This bag has a HUGE opening that I could put a gym clothing with shoes, plus my uniform with boots and still had room for lunch. And the small internal frame helps keeps it a light load as well as keeping my gear from crunching.

Comments about REI Vagabond Travel Pack:
So far I have been using this pack for weekend trips and have had more than enough room. Carried it on a plane and it fit perfectly into the overhead bin. It will be my only bag for a 12 day trip to Ireland. Love that it opens like a suitcase so I can see all my gear. The waist strap hides comfortably away. I am 5'6" and the pack fits me well. The only change I would make would be to allow the additional pockets more room to expand. I find the long zippered pocket down the front is only good for papers and very thin items. There is a mesh compartment on the underside of the lid. The organizer at the top of the bag is very nice and can actually hold most of my toiletries so that I can pull them out easily for airport security checks. Overall, a great bag!

Comments about REI Vagabond Travel Pack:
This bag carried my mid-sized camera, compact camera, compact notebook computer, full-sized binoculars, bird field guide, Lonely Planet, other reading material and maps, and still had room for a couple lightweight changes of clothes and personal items. Packing cubes fit well within. I used it for three months of bus, train, taxi and tuk tuk travel in Southeast Asia, with a wheeled suitcase left at a base hotel to trade out when I switched from beach to volunteer English teacher to birder... Lockable zipper is great. I never used the little pockets on the waist belt, too small for things and money stayed with me. The pack turned out to be too big and awkward for double use as a day pack as I had intended. It is very comfortable to carry, even when densely packed and quite heavy. I'm 5'6" tall/female and it fits me well in torso length and the shoulders are not too wide as is often the case. The belt provides good support.
