Comments about Merrell Moab Mid Gore-Tex XCR Hiking Boots - Women's:
For the price it doesn't get better! Merrell understands MY feet (high arches, no padding on balls of feet). I ordered my first pair of Merrells on line last year (Merrell Thermo 6)after doing MUCH research and review reading. I could not have been happier! I live in Hawaii and we have very limited resources for hiking/camping equipment, so I have to (with the help only of reviews) buy on line. I was planning a longer than usual hike in warm weather that required a sturdy shoe. My thermo 6's are just too hot for Hawaii, so I researched Merrell again, deciding on the Moab-mid gore-tex. I read several reviews that said the fit was 1 size off, and several said size was spot on. I decided that I would go only a 1/2 size up, and I got lucky! With my hiking socks on these fit like a dream! I used these for a few shorter hikes (no break in was required),and on my 22 mile (r/t) to Kalalau with a 30lb pack. These boots have been through streams, rain forests, over rocks, roots and desert like conditions and did not let me down!! I did add an extra foot pad, b/c I knew the balls of my feet would hurt. With that said, these are some good boots!

I participate on missions trips to remote places in the world. I have not gone through too many boots over the years because most (Salomon, Nike) have lasted. The Moabs literaly failed on their first mission trip in the jungles of Panama. The black material around the toes completely came apart at the seam on both boots after just two days of use. This allowed water to seep into the boots simply by walking through shallow puddles. I do not recommend, not even for casual use.

Comments about Merrell Moab Mid Gore-Tex XCR Hiking Boots - Women's:
I normally really love Merrells, and I was initially delighted when I bought these. Unfortunately, I've had to change my mind. Because of the placement of the mesh on the toe,and the stiffness of the toe in general, these developed a sharp crease where the shoe bends at the toe. Normally this is spread out across the toe, so it's not a problem, but with these, there wasn't enough stiff reinforcement to prevent a sharp crease. The crease rubbed the top of my toes every time I took a step- very uncomfortable. I tried several types of insoles to fill the space, but nothing worked for me. So, these're great if the pair you get doesn't crease like mine did!

Comments about Merrell Moab Mid Gore-Tex XCR Hiking Boots - Women's:
I love Merrells but these did not work for me. Like for another reviewer, they creased right across the bottom of my toes and it was extremely uncomfortable. I am desperate to find a pair of lightweight boots that fit correctly so I brought them home and wore them around the house - but they didn't get better. I had to return them. Other than that they seemed like they'd be great boots - which is why I tried so hard to make them work!

I work 40 hours a week on my feet in a state park. I wear these shoes everyday and they have kept my feet happy and blister free. I have worked in damp conditions and downpours and my feet are dry and the traction worked well and I can climb over slippery wet rocks without a problem.
The left shoe did require a few steps to get the stiffness out of the toe area. But after a few minutes the stiffness was gone and the shoes have worked wonderfully.

These were my first "real" pair of hiking boots. I hiked in them for 4 consecutive days and many miles all through Bryce Canyon and Zion - through snow, wet slick rock, dry dirt and scrambling up rocky trails. Never had a blister, no hot spots; nothing but great support and comfort.

I wore these to hike trails at the Grand Canyon, Big Bend, and Buffalo River. They're sturdy little boots and they've kept my feet comfy and dry. The price was very reasonable, and they're cute too. Enjoy!

I bought these for a 4-day trek to Machu Picchu in January (the rainy season). I also used them to hike up a few smaller mountains beforehand. These shoes performed amazingly.
No break in required, no blisters.
My feet felt great no matter how much hiking I did. In wet weather, my feet stayed dry and the shoes gripped slippery terrain with no problem. These shoes are also light enough to wear around town or with lighter hiking.
Only notable fault was that the one day I chose to wear thin athletic socks, my arches felt a bit strained at the end of the day. With thicker socks (wool), however, they were perfect.

Only thing I didn't like - had to replace laces as they wouldn't stay tied - too slippery.

Comments about Merrell Moab Mid Gore-Tex XCR Hiking Boots - Women's:
I've worn these boots for every hike i've been on for almost a full year, in different kinds of weather conditions (just about everything except snow and ice), and for distances typically ranging between 5-16 miles. I've worn them in canyons, forests, deserts, on mountains, and even in a stream or two (accidentally, of course!). And if i could think of something i don't like about these boots, i'd list it. But truth be told, these are the best hiking boots i've ever had. It's designed for the average foot of an average hiker and that makes for a perfect combination.
Equally important is that they're well-suited for different terrains; whether the ground is flat or uneven, wet or dry, solid or unstable, these boots give me incredible grip. Another thing worth noting is the ankle support. I spent a bit of the past year with a healing ankle and these boots provide just the right amount of support; they don't restrict movement, but there's enough there to help you catch yourself if you turn an ankle.
Construction wise, they're decent quality with more bang than i was expecting for my buck. With as quickly as they were broken in, i was worried they'd wear out quickly, too. Fortunately, after near-daily use, they've lasted about 8-9 months. Although it's about time for me to go buy a new pair, i still wear the ones i have to for short hikes and casual use.
All in all, i can honestly say i've never had a more comfortable, reliable pair of boots.
