Comments about SmartWool Midweight Underwear Zip T-Neck - Kids':
No issues with the quality of the product. However, like another reviewer, the kids' medium for this shirt is noticeably smaller than the kids' medium from 1-2 years ago in both length and chest circumference. Since the fabric is expected to shrink after washing, I expect that I will need to exchange the shirt for a L or XL.

Comments about SmartWool Midweight Underwear Zip T-Neck - Kids':
Lovely product, but the sizing is weird. This company seems to manufacture the smallest kids extra large that I have ever come across. The fit in the body wasn't too bad, but the sleeve length was too short and this was on a 100lb kid. I generally love smartwool products, but this particular one needs a rework.

Comments about SmartWool Midweight Underwear Zip T-Neck - Kids':
I'm very pleased with everything -- softness, fit, zipper quality -- except the color choices. (Can't there be kid-friendly colors besides the overtly gender-coded pastel pink and dark olive drab?)
Being a merino fan for myself, I couldn't resist the chance to have a zip-T base layer for the tot. The best thing about this fabric is how it handles moisture. Tot was "washing hands" and got soaked up to the elbows, and yet the shirt did not become "clammy". I blotted it dry without taking it off, and within a half hour it was dry to the touch.
A previous reviewer gave this a low rating out of frustration with the sizing. I can understand being unpleasantly surprised a change in size standards, but this is simply not a problem with the product itself. On the 2008 size standard, the XS seems to be about what most would call a 4T -- a generous fit on my 2.5-year-old, and one that I hope will make it last at least two seasons, if not three.
As for cost -- it's not cheap, but it will be a go-to item all winter, and it'll make a truly worthy hand-me-down.

Comments about SmartWool Midweight Underwear Zip T-Neck - Kids':
I bought my kids the zip necks last year, and it quickly became their favourite item of clothing, so much so that they wanted to wear it all day, everyday, then sleep in it at night. That being so, I decided to get them another set this year despite the steep price. There is a HUGE discrepancy in size between last year's stock and this year's, as my daughter's new XL fits like a M from last year!! This years' medium is also significantly smaller than last year. In comparing the two Mediums or the two XLs, there is at least 1-2 inches difference all around perimeter of the entire sweather (between last year's and this year's models). In the back of the shirt, there is even a 4" difference!!! Even though the wool tops are phenomenal and have had an all around great buy/wear from last year's models, because of the huge size discrepancy this year, my children aren't able to wear them, and I am giving it a one star.
Service and delivery comments:
I contacted REI and Smartwool regarding the sizing 'problem', to see if it a mislabelling, batch issue... or change in sizing. Still no response from either after a month, so will return the two new tops and try to find another brand with good quality wool tops.

Comments about SmartWool Midweight Underwear Zip T-Neck - Kids':
Everyone remembers the itchy, bulky long underwear their parents put them in when they were kids. This long underwear is nothing like that. Smartwool has blended a silky-soft yet warm fabric that fits smoothly under other layers and looks nice as casualwear. Wool also regulates heat a little better than most synthetics, which is perfect for little bodies which don't do that so well on their own. Lastly, the colors are perfect - bright and cheerful but not too childish.
