I bought this for my 11-year-old son to use as pajamas on an upcoming back packing trip he is doing with Boy Scouts. My son is a VERY skinny kid and always cold, so I hoped these would be warm. This past weekend, he got a chance to "test" this top when he was invited to go along on a camping trip with a friend. When he came home he said he loved it! He said it kept him warm and cozy in his sleeping bag, even though he is skinny. This is a HIGH endorsement from him. He has used this sleeping bag on many camping trips and is often cold. This past weekend he was at a higher altitude, on a particularly cold/rainy weekend. I highly recommend this top. It will keep you child "warm and cozy" in the cold.
I am a short, relatively petite woman for whom regular sizes are always too long, especially sleeves. The Smartwool Kid's Lg. fits me perfectly. Also, I cannot wear normal wool, but Smartwool in the midweight is a wonderful first layer for N. Calif. winter wear. With a fleece vest over it, I am comfortable at home with the heat turned down a notch. And, compared to the Women's version, it's a bargain! There is nothing I don't like about this "underwear" shirt (it looks good out, too).
We purchased both this item and a comparable REI shirt. The SmartWool shirt seemed a little bit warmer, especially when exercising. However, the REI shirt (which is about the thickness of most T-shirts) was more than sufficient. The SmartWool shirt actually gets very warm when you start exercising whereas the REI one is just about right. If you are not moving around a lot and want to stay a bit warmer, the SmartWool might be the way to go (it's also a bit thicker and more sweater-like).
Not the thin base layer I expected, but it’s soft and thick and could be an under layer or worn by itself. (Softer and thicker than the REI brand version.)
Comfortable, soft, and warm shirt. While it is lightweight (to feel), is thick enough to produce adequate warmth. Washes well (so far). The shirt does have more of a boxy fit, and therefore, is not tight fitting like some long underwear.
We used these in Hawaii as PJs as well as in Utah under ski clothes. They aren’t itchy and we love the cute colors. Wool is known for being a natural fiber that regulates body temperature so it keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. We’re going on a road trip and plan to wear these 3 nights in a row then wash. Saves space in the suitcase and no, they don’t start to stink until day 4.
I got the pink color and it’s gorgeous! At home I can wear it as a thin sweater or layer with a jacket when I go out. Great quality and more forgiving in terms of sizing. Love it!
this fabric also travels well, takes up very little space and is exactly what I was looking for. I plan to buy more.
Cozy base layer with a soft interior finish. Mid-weight. Fits my tall 6-year-old well. Looks really sharp.
Soft texture, good quality. Holds up well to use.
