Comments about The North Face Blues Beanie:

If you are looking for a cold weather hat that will keep you warm in extreme conditions while you stay *sedentary*, please move along. If, however, you are looking for one hat to use for nearly all *ACTIVE cold-weather activities*, I HIGHLY recommend the North Face Blues Beanie.

While moving at anything between a moderate to brisk pace, this highly breathable and functional beanie will keep your head warm, while venting like mad, in almost any temperature conditions above ~0˚F. As the mercury drops even further, the addition of a shell hood, a second hat (my choice is a windstopper hat that fits snugly as a second layer) or a balaclava for a second layer, should keep you moving comfortably until it is time to set up camp.

MY USE HISTORY:
- Have owned for ~1.0 years
- Easily worn more than 200 days
- Temperature ranges faced when wearing: 5˚F to 65˚F, plus a few alpine forays with constant wind chills (beanie under my shell jacket's hood) down to -25˚F for 2+ hours.
- Weather exposure: When the weather is bad, I usually have this beanie on under the hood of my shell though I've worn with no hood in snow, light rain for an extended period, and chilly wind up to ~25mph (my shell hood goes on above that)
- Note that I shave my noggin and lack an the extra insulation hair provides, so if this beanie keeps me warm, it should do well for someone with a thick head of hair.

CONS:
- None!

PROS:
- All-around *excellent* beanie!
- Low-bulk and profile. Very easy and comfortable to use as a base layer under a second hat or over a thin balaclava (or under a thick one) when the weather/temperature becomes more extreme.
- Very well suited for active cold-weather applications where warmth with high breathability is desirable.
- Nice interior fleece band is very comfortable, low bulk, but provides just enough warmth. The band is roughly two inches high and circles the bottom of the beanie on the interior (covers ears, forehead, etc.), leaving the top portion of the beanie with just the primary material for insulation.
- Due to the previous (thinner layer of insulation at the top) this beanie breathes very, very well.
- This may be unique to me, but this beanie does not itch my head.
