The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Inside Passage Accessory Bag:
For about 5 years (since my old brief case wore out) I have been on a an odyssey quest for the perfect brief case/day bag, and it ended when I found this bag. For once, finally, somebody figured out that people need good organizational tools in a bag like this. The organizer pocket in this bag is not perfect but it acknowledges that things we often carry are three dimensional--usually they make flat pockets, but this bag provides depth to the organizer pockets. Pen/pencil pockets are rounded, the larger pockets are also 3-D so they hold a nice selection of items including checkbooks, pdas, cell phone, etc.
The main pocket is nice and big enough to fit more than your typical brief case. I was always struggling to choose between a backpack and brief case because I usually carry papers, files, a couple text books and misc items. This bag does it all quite well, plus some room to spare for a jacket or umbrella.
It's a little strange though, how it opens. The top flap opens in reverse compared to most other bags, so it's taken some adapting to getting things in and out. The flap zipper extends to the bottom of the bag on both sides so that the front of the bag can fold back completely, exposing the entire cargo compartment, which is nice when organizing or loading large items.
The back zips open on top and bottom so you can slide it over a rolling suitcase handle for easy secure airport carrying. The shoulder strap is very comfy and is adjustable at both ends to allow for positioning of the pad. I originally thought having the pad permanently attached to the strap was a downside (you can't reposition it without adjusting the strap length), but it actually is an advantage because it helps the bag stay positioned on your shoulder better, I can even ride a bike with this bag (slung around to my back) and not worry about it sliding down to my side.
This is a very unique bag, it's unlike any I've ever seen. It has good organizer features, and combines the convenience of a soft briefcase with the cargo capacity of a backpack. Aside from the unusual flap configuration, I have no complaints. It is darn near the perfect bag for me.

Comments about REI Inside Passage Accessory Bag:
I bought this bag as a true carry-on for an international trip. I am a pretty light packer, but wanted a dedicated carry-on bag in addition to my duffel so that I would have easy access to in-flight comforts like a travel blanket, reading material, water bottle, iPod, etc., as well as necessary items like my wallet, I.D., transit pass and such while going to and from the airport. In other words, my ideal carry-on should act as a beefed-up purse, offering convenient access to the stuff I carry around every day anyway, but also extra capacity for things used en route. This bag gets most of the way there--it makes great use of its compact size, easily holding a travel blanket, noise-canceling headphones in their case, water bottle, eyeglass case, digital camera, and a small pack of toiletries in the spacious main compartment. The outside pocket is larger than it looks and easily carried my Filofax, coin purse, additional notebook, pens, passport, and keys. However, one big minus is that the outside pockets are not really big enough for reading materials. The zipper pouch on the back of the bag seems really designed to piggy-back onto the handle of a rolling bag; it's not deep enough for a magazine, and too flat for a book. The front pocket is too small for a magazine and will only hold a book if you don't have much else in there. This is a major downside for me as I like to be able to read until right before boarding, then easily put the reading materials away. I also like to be able to access my reading materials in flight without unpacking the bag.The other major downside is that this bag is simply of poor quality. I took this on one trip and never checked the bag. I never overstuffed it or forced it closed. Yet after just a few days' use, the seams were coming apart in two places. Perhaps this is to be expected for the price and [...], but I would rather pay a little more for a bag that will last a lot longer. In short, I'll be returning this bag to REI as defective, and will seek a higher-quality replacement.

Comments about REI Inside Passage Accessory Bag:
I first used this bag to go on vacation. I found that it suited all of my needs. The main zipper area was especially useful when going through security. It has an amaizing opening area where you see everything, from top to bottom, when opened. The outside pouches were excellent to store boarding passes and easy to access reading materials. A padded shoulder strap provided comfort when carrying my laptop and REI Beast duffel. The bag looks, pound for pound, like a bag of higher quality. I look forward to future travel so I can use it again.

Comments about REI Inside Passage Accessory Bag:
I purchased this because it looked to be a great travel bag, with nice comparment size, comfortable carry strap. But the first time I used it, both ends of the strap broke. They look like metal, but broke as though they were plastic. Very poor quality. Very disappointed in the bag....and REI. Since I don't have my receipt, and don't have a membership, REI will not replace the strap until they can "confirm" my purchase. So, I purchased a poor quality bag, and now have to prove I am not a shoplifer. Will never purchase another item from REI.

Comments about REI Inside Passage Accessory Bag:
In October 2007 I purchased this bag for a European tour where the airline limited carry-ons to 5 kilos (about 11 pounds). Additionally, the bag had to fit under the seat in front and could not be put into an overhead luggage bin.
Everything that I needed fit very easily into this carry on and it was still well within the weight limit. It fits easily under a seat. I have used this bag on many other US air and road trips and have continued to be satisfied with the capacity, organization, and quality.

Comments about REI Inside Passage Accessory Bag:
Love using this bag for work travel. Slips onto the handle of my carry-on luggage. Many compartments to hold various items. Stows easily beneath the airplane seat.
Used it for a couple years and started running into a minor problem: zipper pulls came off.(Zipper still worked, just the pulls came off.)
Loved this bag so much I brought it back to REI for possible repair but in the end they replaced the bag with current model instead. (I am an REI member and this exchange was VERY easy.) I'm sure I'll pull a lot of miles on this new bag. Just wish the new model had more color options.

Comments about REI Inside Passage Accessory Bag:
It is good size but not too big. Great shape for carrying papers or a laptop. Mine seems durable. Looks better in real life than the REI picture. I have no complaints.
