Comments about REI Cirque ASL 2 Tent:
Being a product wear tester I already own too many tents! The Arete and the Cirque just happens to embody the things I feel that are important to camping in various seasons and weather conditions!!!I prefer the triangle vestabule on the Cirque in foul weather as it keeps you and your tents inards drier getting in and out! Aslo, there is a cool little hook on the vestabule door for keeping the door open and out of the way that is a nice little plus which can also aid visibility. Speaking of visibility, I like looking out of my tent if possible and this little hook makes this possible in all but the worst weather!!! The venting on the Cirque is very well thought out,you would have to work hard to condensate up this tent! So I laid down the cash for a unique tent "The Cirque" largly due to its venting and its ability to cover up the mesh which really helps keep you comfy in windy situations or when its colder! The REI quality is of course a dominating feature as well! I commented that the Cirque could be tight for two but the dual vestabules will help here! I was really thinking more about the shallow walls, some people will prefer the Arete which appears to have steeper walls and may deal with some snow a little better. I'm writing this piece after just returning from Utahs High Uintahs in which the wind and rain was unrelenting and the temps a bit cool, the Cirque took great care of me! Its in the thick of things when you really find out about how well things work or don't work like setting up or taking down a tent in a storm etc.
There are few things more miserable when your tent leaks and all your gear is soaked and your tent mate is un happy cause their down bag is wet and you are the one who brought the tent???HMMM!
The Cirque is a solid performer! Layne

Comments about REI Cirque ASL 2 Tent:
Used this product on multiple outings mostly fall in the UP of Michigan. Tent has excellent features for the price. Inside pockets are very useful. Vents work well. Almost no condensation in 30 degree temps. Haven't had the chance to use in the extreme cold or deep snow but tent stayed warm in mild temps. Very storm worthy, no worries of leaks. Packs small. Light weight for level of protection.
Some complaints: I suspect snow will gather on the flat top. Because of the slope of the walls, the tent is cramped for two 6 ft guys. Not terrible for my girlfriend who is 5'3" and I. Also the zippers for the doors have tight spots that require patience. Wish tent would have enough stakes for the guy out points. had to buy extra.
Over all a solid tent for the price that gives up space for lightweight design.

Comments about REI Cirque ASL 2 Tent:
I put this tent to the test on a multi-day hike through George Crosby Manitou State Park in northern MN. We set up the tent and footprint at about 11PM in a light rain, and were inside and dry in a matter of minutes. About an hour later, the light rain turned into an outright deluge. After some adjusting of the roof and door vents, the air flow was perfect (the cross-flow design of the rainfly works extremely well). My wife and I woke up to find that it was still raining hard but the interior was dry. A very good tent.

Comments about REI Cirque ASL 2 Tent:
This is one hell of a tent. Great construction, great fly with vestibules for PLENTY of gear, and pretty light for a 4-season. It seems cramped for a two man tent, but very comfortable for a one man (I'm 5'9"). I stayed toasty all night with a foot of snow in the morning. It's even got nifty little hooks on the inside for hanging lights and other nick-nacks. Only a little bit of condensation on the edges, probably because of the snow, though. Other than that, GREAT TENT!!!!!!!!

Comments about REI Cirque ASL 2 Tent:
So I broke this tent in right the first time. Snowshoe into Ashland Lakes area in three feet of snow. This tent is super easy and quick to set up, which was good cause it was snowing at the lake. Through the night I had snow, rain, and high winds at times that caused snow balls to crash into the tent over and over....It held up to the punishment no problem. The only things I feel are of concern are the tent pegs very short and no surface space for snow or sand set up. I brought four snow pegs with me to help out with keeping the tent on the ground. Also I think you would be pushing it to try and fit two adults in there, but it was just right for me and my gear.

Comments about REI Cirque ASL 2 Tent:
This tent seemed like a good lightweight alternative to the heavy four-season tents, and I was ready to sacrifice space (it is only 30 square feet, rather cramped for two in winter but usable) to get a two-door tent at this weight. But on only my second use of it in winter, it blew apart in only a moderate wind.
I had camped in a spot I thought would be sheltered, but it was not as sheltered as I had hoped, with a wind of around 25-30 mph. And a freak thaw had melted almost all of the snow, preventing me from guying out the tent as well as I would have liked. As we prepared breakfast one morning, the cord attaching the fly to an ice ax used as an anchor on the windward side tore off the fly (broke), causing the fly to peel off the tent and flap in the lee. The poles, both of them, immediately broke, with both shock cords breaking and at least one pole section breaking like a twig, causing the tent to completely collapse. We gathered up the pieces and bailed, our trip over. Consequently, I cannot recommend this tent for winter, or other bad weather, use.
I also found that the vestibules are marginal for cooking with a liquid fuel stove: I was able to do it, but wished the vestibule had been better pole-supported and a bit bigger.
I understand that the tent is not recommended for 'heavy' winter use, but still think it needs to be a bit more forgiving of its owner's mistakes! My search for a winter capable, two door, two person tent at under 7 lbs continues!

Comments about REI Cirque ASL 2 Tent:
I used this tent with success on a ski around Crater Lake in January. Conditions were in the 20s (F) with little wind. With two of us crammed into this tent, at night, it got just above 50F inside the tent. There was some frost on the roof but not too much. The double door system worked well, and reduced the amount of time we had to crawl over each other to reach the exit. I appreciated a number of details that REI got right. Small things like a using a compression stuff sack, directions sewed on the stuff sack, easy tie off for when you want the doors open, inclusion of a pole repair piece, etc. The tent is light weight but there is a cost for this. First it is quite small. Two folks fit in it but we were not doing much more than sleeping. Secondly the material is very light. It works fine and it is inline with the ultralight thinking but it probably means I’ll be buying a new tent in 3-4 seasons. For the price though you can’t go too wrong with this for a basic four season tent.

I got this for X-mas and wanted to try it out so we went down to our land on the Kenai and did an overnighter. it set up in about 3 minutes including the fly which was great because it was 25 below zero that night and even colder at dawn. I got a small amount of ice build up on the top inside but i dont think i had the right amount of ventilation. Bottom line is this tent is great and with the fly on will take a good snow load.

Comments about REI Cirque ASL 2 Tent:
Took this baby out with a few friends on a very chilly weekend. For the weight and money this tent will be hard to beat. The tent set up quickly with the color-coded poles, and allowed me the time to get on to other important things like making dinner. My friend and I shared the tent. We're both about 6 feet tall and still had plenty of room for our shoes and other shed-ables at the foot of the tent. It was a bit cramped at the shoulders though. I carry 2 zipper-mounted thermometers with me while on the trails. I keep one on my sleeping bag and one on my pack (which I kept just outside, under the vestibule. I woke up the next morning feeling great and toasty warm. I compared the 2 thermometers and it was 15 degrees warmer inside the tent with minimal condensation. I only have two issues with this tent. 1) is that it is a bit cramped with 2 grown men. Its perfect for solo trips, for him and her, or you and a furry friend. 2) are the the zippers for the doors. They seem to be under a lot of stress to close properly. With regular use I'm sure these will wear out quickly.Final words: This is a great tent all-in-all, I would definitely recommend this to a friend, but I'm gonna check out the REI Arete to hopefully solve my small complaints.
