Comments about Mountain Hardwear Agama Pack:

I bought this pack because of the "helmet pocket" to hold my full size digital SLR securely but with easy quick access. It does this well. It has a lot of internal organizing bits for the 10 essentials, or your pens and pencils, etc. for school or work.

So far I have used this a computer bag, utilizing the hydration pouch as a computer compartment. Carry on bag for airplanes. Day hike and one summertime overnight. I do not recommend overloading this pack as I have in the past because the compression straps are a little high to really control substantial weigh. But use it what it is meant for and it is fine.

It is also very rugged and the padding is good. My only complaint is it can get a little sweaty on the back with all that great padding.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Agama Pack:

I purchased this pack approximately 12 months ago for use as a school bag. I tried two packs prior to this one, and returned each of them as they were either uncomfortable or didn't have the capacity I thought I would need. This one fits the bill perfectly.

For what it's worth, I'm female, 5'7". The bag fits great.

I commute by bike to school (14 miles each way), and to work (3 miles each way). The sternum and waist straps keep things steady, and the pack is tremendously comfortable the whole way. It has enough capacity to hold my computer (MacBook 13 inch - plus its padded case), notebooks, lunch, coffee and water (using the side mesh pockets), some clothes, and even shoes if necessary. The stretchy outside pocket allows for the shoes, and also holds your bike helmet if needed.

In addition to the shoulder straps, there is a handle on top and another on the front of the bag (which is nicely lined with a soft material) making it easy to pick up from many angles.

The only complaint I've had to date is that the smaller pocket, with all the organizer bits, can make the bag top heavy if you over pack it. This part of the bag is a bit of a catch-all, and I have been guilty of throwing too much in there.

The computer sleeve is not padded, as it is also meant to hold a water bladder if you use the bag for hiking. I've done this, and it works well.

I've looked around at other backpacks just for kicks, and always come back to the one I already have. One year of abuse and it still looks relatively new. I expect I'll get many more...

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Agama Pack:

This a great pack! I was surprised how much it actually fit. It spacious enough to fit my bedding and all other needs for my 2 day shifts at the FD. I also feel very comfortable that everything is protected. All the electronic pockets feel very sturdy and well padded.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Agama Pack:

I've had a lot of small backpacks such as this and this is my favorite. No one thing. Layout of pockets include internal ones you can't see online, padding, strap adjustments all make sense. Comfortable.

I'll never have this loaded to its limit. I use it for daily carrying of "stuff" with the kids and for and day hikes. I note the hip strap is removable. It's a one-inch unpadded nylon strap. I took mine off because I never need it for the type of "backpacking" I do. I never miss the hip strap, even on the trail. If you are going to load it up heavy you might instead want one of the packs with a padded hip strap.

That's my only caution. I like it a lot.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Agama Pack:

Recently took this pack on a 4 day fishing trip to the Mammoth Lakes Area in Northern California. I bought this backpack specifically for this trip and it did not disappoint. The bag was very easy to load and was a cinch to keep organized. The waist and chest straps were comfortable and helped stabalize the pack on hikes to remote creeks.

I had plenty of room to spare, even with all of my gear packed. I have not used the hydration pocket yet, because I carried a thermos full of water, but I plan to try it out on the next trip.

My only issue, the zipper snagged twice, but I was able to easily fix it with some gentle tugs on the material.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Agama Pack:

I use this bag for my laptop and notebook during the week with work. Slip out the laptop and it's ready to go for various weekend activities. The outside mesh pocket is awesome and a great place to store shoes, wet clothes, things you don't want inside your pack. The bag technically has a "waist belt" but it's really just unpadded straps. However, a great feature is that they are removable and leaves the bag a lot cleaner looking.
