Comments about Advanced Elements Backbone Internal Kayak Frame - AdvancedFrame Convertible Kayak:
The backbone rod for the kayak definitely helps with the overall rigidity of the boat, which makes it track better in the water and makes it easier to port between the shore and a vehicle. However, getting the backbone positioned underneath the floor of the kayak before anything is inflated is a bit cumbersome. It's worth the trouble, and is a definite plus if the paddler using the kayak is upwards of 200 lbs. The benefit to someone less than 200 lbs might be marginal.

Comments about Advanced Elements Backbone Internal Kayak Frame - AdvancedFrame Convertible Kayak:
This seemed a little expensive when I ordered it, but was really glad when I saw just how stout this piece is. For use with the longer 15' convertible, I think this accessory is especially well matched for their longest boat. If you're using in the ocean with any swells, it makes a major difference. Also when carrying the kayak to launch, I always fill it up with our gear, and now it doesn't bow like a banana when we carry it. I also notice improved tracking as it makes a noticeable ridge on the hull. If you only use the convertible kayak on flat lakes, it's probably not as crucial of an accessory. It also makes loading it up on the kayak rack much more stable because it is so rigid.
It takes a little bit of extra set up time, and some careful alignment to make sure you get it right, but once you get it, I've noticed a huge improvement on an already well made kayak!
