Comments about The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's:

- Perfect for cold, dry climates. We had 11 below (F) a few days ago; anywhere the coat was, cold wasn't.

- It really does compress down to the size of a shoe. Handy.

- Not the toughest fabric on the planet. Keep the cat away from it.

- Beware of cultural saturation. In our town, everyone and their monkey owns a TNF or Mountain Hardware down coat.

- Note previous reviews regarding shells, getting wet, etc. This definitely isn't a rain coat.

My advice? Decide why you really want the Nuptse. If you're looking for warmth on in-town errands while projecting that outdoorsy hipster look (not that there's anything wrong with that), think about getting a size smaller than normal. You don't want to look like Randy from "A Christmas Story" without a good reason, so if you're going to wear this in the mountains or extended outdoors activity, get your normal size to allow for layering.

Comments about The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's:

a bit of advice to the men out there : always make your wife/girlfriend buy warmer clothes than you. that way you can both enjoy the trip!

the classic. my wife made the mistake of buying the TNF 550 fill down jacket. needless to say by the middle of the night she had on my 700 fill jacket as i resorted to freezing my butt off in my fleece & shell.

key points that separate this from other down jackets:
:: jacket stuffs into its pocket so you can always carry it like a loaf of bread
:: already proven on many mountaineering expeditions
:: best of all...zip-in compatible. it integrates into the TNF gore tex shells to create one solid jacket (ingenious zipper integration and snap loops on sleeves). wear them separately or together when the weather changes.

Comments about The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's:

I'd used non-THF down jackets for years, and decided I'd try this one after my wife, also an outdoors-addict, had great luck with her TNF down. I ordered the Nuptse [...] and found it was like wearing a tent. I'm 6'2" and 170 pounds, a runner, and not built in either the chest or gut to wear something that seems cut to fit a Titans lineman. I bought a THF '06 Elysium, which fits great--cut for athletes and not too roomy. For guys like me, the Flash or Elysium is a better buy with the same great TNF build and warmth. Were it not for the fit, this would be a very satisfactory jacket!

Comments about The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's:

I had this jacket for about a month, then the feathers started shifting and I was getting flat spots that didn't have any feathers! This created cold spots as well, so I returned the coat. I was less than pleased. I feel that North Face has gotten more into making "pretty and popular" gear and forgotten its roots. I ended up going with a Mountain Hardware and I love it.

Comments about The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's:

I use this with a TNF Guide shell. I like using layers to maintain my body temperature and this one zips and snaps in snugly with TNF shells. The fleece lining I used last year worked well but it is not nearly as warm and comfy as this liner. I feel like I’m in my sleeping bag with it on.

If I get cold in this please call a coroner, because I’m probably dead.

Comments about The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's:

One of the long time jackets of TNF that works well. The down fill is great to keep you warm after the long day of hiking or during the early hours of morning when you are up making your morning meal in the camp.

Watch out for the soft nylon shell as it could rip easily. Like the fact that it can go with one of many TNF shells and I would recommend getting one to keep it waterproof. The other added advantage is that it has a built in hood to cut a bit of the wind. TNF jackets are usually made with slightly larger fits and I like it as I have a big frame!

Comments about The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's:

I must admit I didn't get the full use of the product, but at 20 degrees and 40 mile an hour winds, it felt great. It was worth the 1lb weight to carry for my summit bid on Rainier. It also doubles as a great feather pillow. The down stayed in the right places even after 3 nights as a pillow and when I put it on, it was just like new. I at first bought a 550 fill. Trust me, the 700 fill is worth the extra money. Warmth is worth it.

These are GREAT! I have two, one when I was smaller and one that fits me now. I was once a pro. guide and while I did not need it in the Amazon I used it in Patagonia. It alone was all I needed for outer wear WITHOUT RAIN and when it rained just zip it into a TNF shell. Perfect fit.
I will be using it tonight, with the shell, when a sleet storm is due to hit. NO FEAR, I will be warm!

Comments about The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's:

If it ain't broke don't fix it!!!I'm not sure but I think this design has been in TNFs inventory from there beginning, aside from some tweeking(shell materials, colors and offering a choice of feather loft)it hasn't changed, for good reason!!!It works!
I've own one for a very long time and it proforms and looks like the day I bought it.For non- arobeic activities in cold ,cold , weather it does keep you toasty and its under 1 lbs..I would recommend getting the 700 down model,it's worth the extra pennies. When your winter camp chores are done and its time to relax and brag about the day, slip into this toaster and stay cozy and warm.
