Comments about Brunton ADC Ridge Altimeter:

When used with maps and/or compass this is a very helpful tool to have to confirm your position. It is accurate but it needs frequent calibration. If you know your starting elevation then there is no problem, but if you don't you can still use this tool to gage your elevation gain. There is barometer function too but I haven't used it.

      Think About Your Measurement Needs

Comments about Brunton ADC Ridge Altimeter:

Brunton instruments are beautiful, functional, rugged, and finely crafted. Just the sort of equipment you want.

Before buying an altimiter you need to think about 2 things, how much elevation you want to measure and the precision of the instrument you are buying.

In this niche of the world I'm interested in accurate elevation measurements in the 10's to 100's of feet perhaps with a maximum of 500'.

This particular altimiter is designed to measure elevation in 100's and 1000's of feet. The minimum division on the face of the instrument is 100' (and it is a small division!) so this is clearly not the correct instrument for my needs.

Nevertheless, I have used Brunton's geological compasses and I know the the quality they bring to their products. If this altimiter meets the needs of your job I'm sure it would be a fine choice.

Comments about Brunton ADC Ridge Altimeter:

I used this in the Catskills at elevations from 2,000-3,700 feet. It helped me to find my position while bushwhacking through the forest. Of course it should be re-calibrated whenever you can confirm your elevation, as the barometric pressure will change with the weather. Beats having to rely on batteries.
