Comments about REI Ti Ware Folding Spork:
The fork works great right from the store if it is used correctly. there is a slider on the handel, slide it towards the spork body to lock it open or closed. slide it away from the spork body to close or open. This is the original plan and it's a good plan. Very happy with the compact nature of this product..

Comments about REI Ti Ware Folding Spork:
Good price (as compared to similar products from other brands). The fork funtion worked well despite having "depth". Moreover, the locking system prevented the spork from folding by itself. Lightweight and all you need for utensils. Works well for soup rice and noodles

Comments about REI Ti Ware Folding Spork:
I have used this spork for a year now and I have yet to come across anything equal to or better than this one in terms of durability and small size. Yes it's true that the locking mechanism could use a little improvement but with half of a brain and a bit of brawn you can solve the issue permanently yourself and have a perfect folding spork that will fit inside your cookware unlike most other utensils. Since I took a grand total of maybe a minute to bend the hindge/locking system to a more structurally sound position, I have never had any problems with it collapsing or anything else. It's the only utensil I carry on the trail and it's served me well

Comments about REI Ti Ware Folding Spork:
Glad to see that most of you that have this spork have a head on your shoulders, But for the rest of you I only wish this spork was around 20 years ago when I was in Scouts. First off it's strong and durable for years of use as for the folding up on you guys USE THE LOCKING MECHANISM it's not hard to figure out just slide the little piece of metal in the top part of the handle and slide it towards the part of the spork you eat with and you won't have a problem with it folding on you. Second as for the hard to clean last time I checked you are suppose to eat with the other end of the sprok the part with the points at the end. and if you happen to drop it into the pot it comes a part easily and can be cleaned completely.

Comments about REI Ti Ware Folding Spork:
This spork is great for putting in my pocket or in a pot with my other cookstuff, where standard or compact non-folding utensils would still be too large. It could be a tad longer for better getting to the bottom of a dehydrated backpacking meal, and still be small enough to fold into most cookpots, but it's still long enough to eat with. It's not super stable, but the locking mechanism hasn't made me drop food in my lap yet. It obviously takes more time to clean properly, but that's no big deal to me. Overall, it's a great little spork that holds a fair amount of food. I agree with the other reviewer who stated that the hinge should swing the other way, but the locking mechanism would still be needed for light stirring or twisting of pasta. I've used it several times and I'm happy with it. It's compact, lightweight and it holds a mouthful! That's why I got it. And for those purposes it works well.

Comments about REI Ti Ware Folding Spork:
This spork has a cool gunmetal coating with green tint, and it folds in half to fit in a small pot or your pocket. It's attractive, but sadly, it is not functional.
The main problem with this spork is that hinge is fragile. After a few uses, it won't stay open when weighted with food. If the designers had just reversed the hinge, then it wouldn't even need a locking mechanism, since the weight of the food would hold the hinge open.
The hinge point collects food and is difficult to clean. The spork is lightweight compared to dining table silverware, but not when compared to an ordinary plastic or vinyl spork.
(Also, you can't use it on non-stick/coated pots or pans, but that's true for all metal utensils.)

Comments about REI Ti Ware Folding Spork:
Good concept. Bad design. Hinge should fold towards the front instead of the back. Can't eat anything without it collapsing. You can take it apart and bend the bars apart to give a little more strength, but that is just a temporary fix until the next meal.

Comments about REI Ti Ware Folding Spork:
I've used this spork allot, but if you plan to buy a titanium spork do your homework first. I have to agree with other posts that this item is a bit difficult to clean. Food and dirt can get into and between the moving parts thereby causing potential sources of contamination. I routinely disassemble and clean my spork and really don't find it too troublesome, but other hikers may be annoyed at this inconvenience. Since size and weight matter to me, then I will continue to use it. If you are not worried about size and weight then consider another product. When it comes time to buy a replacement I will probably look for a different product.
My spork actual wt. (0.52 oz.) is 0.1 oz heavier than the specification weight of 0.4 oz.

Comments about REI Ti Ware Folding Spork:
I love this spork! It's fun to watch people use it for the first time, not knowing to use the slider to hold the folding apparatus in place...a good laugh, really! This spork is light weight, folds up easily and once locked into place with the slider, can even be used to shovel some sand!!
This spork has served me well...and it will you, too!

Comments about REI Ti Ware Folding Spork:
I can't believe how many reviewers are stating that this spork collapses. Here's a hint: Use the Locking Piece. This is a strong and durable titanium spork that can withstand a lot of abuse. It is compact (the handle folds up) and is under an ounce. It'll work, if you push the locking mechanism up.
